Constant back pain for last 4 days.

Ok on Monday morning I woke up and had a lot of pain in my lower back and it has continued since then. I've tried using aspirin, ibuprofen, extra strength tylenol, hot and cold pads on the area and nothing is helping. Each different med or the hot and cold pads relieves the pain for no longer than an hour and then it comes back, usually worse than before taking the medication or trying the pads. i've tried stretching my back, cracking it, I've tried different positions sitting and laying down and nothing relieves the pain. it is constant and it's really effecting my ability to do anything! I can't sleep at night I have a hard time moving around and doing basic functions. Cleaning the house is out of the question as I get a sharp pain whenever I bend down in any way.

The pain changes all the time too, it'll go from a sharp shooting/stabbing pain to dull i guess throbbing pains to what feels like I overstretched my muscles and everything in between(sorry not very good at describing it lol) And today i also started getting pains right below my chest. Not on my chest and not on my stomach but in between. It's just a dull throbbing sometimes and it feels constricting where i have a hard time breathing and feel forced to unhook my bra and stretch my chest in order to get any relief.

I just don't understand why I am having these pains. Nothing in my normal routine has changed, I haven't lifted or done anything that could strain my back, unless i unknowingly slept in a weird position, but I don't think the pain would have continued for this long if that was the case.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening or what I can do to help the pain, besides drugs, I'm not too fond of them to begin with I didn't even want to take the above meds but i needed some relief!

Be careful using the heating pad for too long. It is recommended that you alternate heat and ice.
Have you tried Salon Pas? it is like the icy hot patches. They work well for me sometimes.
I hope your feeling better very soon. At least get a diagnosis as to what is causing your pain so it can be treated.
Keep us updated:)

I never thought about maybe the kids straining my back but as my lil one seems to be in a growth spurt(she's getting chubbers lol) that could be causing it but i can't really just not pick of my kids though so I don't know lol But my back never hurt before from it so I'm just confused. My necks hurting today too, but i woke up in a really weird position so i think that's why it hurts. Can't wait to see the doc though! I'm sitting here with a heat pad on which will help only as long as it's on so it's staying on for as long as possible lol

well just a few weeks back i woke up with a sore neck...nothing major...thought it was just the way i slept!! lol but then as a few days went by it  got more and more sore to the point where i couldnt sit. stand. or lie down by myself....I had to take meds to get relief from my pain and to this day they still dont know whats wrong with me! Is it possible that your kids are getting heavy and you dont reliize it when you lift them!? lol anything as simple as a lil fun baby dancing can make you pull a muscle..thats what it sounds like to me...if you dont want to take any meds all i can suggest is the heat...maby some massage therepy...but if it gets that bad you maby want to consider some over the counter muscle relaxers...they work well and arent addicting...talk to a pharmacist about it he/she will give you all the details!! Good luck and i hope you feel better!!

Thanks for the response. This morning i did make an appointment with my doc as the pain seems to have suddenly intensified. Unfortunately i have to wait 2 1/2 weeks before my doc has an opening, although they are supposed to call me if they have any cancellations(doubt it) so I'm stuck with it i guess until then! UGH!

I wish I had something to give you hope but I have no idea based on what you described. All I can do is offer you hope that you feel better soon. You really should contact your Gp and let him/her know the symptoms. There might be something a massage therapist could do or some holistic thrapies they could suggest since you don't like taking meds. I wish you the best. Please post back to let us know what happens.
