Medication brands... Having problems

I had my presciptions filled and my pharmacist is out of the brand I always take and gave me a brand called CorePharma and I can't keep it down. I am so nauseated and feel ill. I know the different companies use different fillers and this can cause a reaction in how you absorb the medication and this may be the problem.
I have spoke to the pharmacist and he told me to try taking it with food and maybe use some medication for the nausea.
I had thought about taking it to my doctor and having him rewrite the prescription but I called around to some pharmacies and they said this is the only brand they can get right now. Apparently a couple of the manufacturer's of the generic roxicodone are having trouble with the DEA and stopped production.
Also the cost is quite expensive as these were double the amount I pay for my usual brand.
I am at a loss here. I do not want to change medications as the regimen I am on has been working fine.
Any suggestions?
Is anyone else is having problems with this brand for oxycodone?
Thanks:)

Sandee,

I'm so happy that your Pharmacist has some coming for you. I've been very concerned with what you have had to tolerate these past few days.

I hope that they get here sooner than expected!!!

Glad to hear the wonderful news....Sherry

Thanks everyone.
I take the 30mg.
My pharmacist has some coming, I had to spend the day yesterday going to pick up a new prescription. I hope it doesn't take to long. He said three days.
I hate being out all that money as these were twice as expensive as that work for me!
Thanks so much everyone:)

I'm so glad your doctor is so good with you!  It's a hard thing to find, I know.  Activis is the one.  Unfortunately I got it through my doctor who dispenses on site to only his patients and I'll PM you about what city I live in.  If need be, I'm sure your doctor could give him a call and see if he could get some for you.  My doctor's really great about these things, too, and is very aware of the struggles CP patients go through.  I think the idea about the online pharmacies is also great.  I didn't realize that you can have schedule 1 meds delivered.  That's news to me and really good news.  If I could get a short time-script from my doctor for the wait for them to be delivered.

I hope you get your regular meds soon.  Nausea is NO fun!

Hi Sandee,

I just  wanted to see how you are doing today? I'm hoping that your Pharmacist might have some news for you. That was a great idea that Jaybay had about the online Walmart's or CVS's.

Hoping you are victorious today!!!...Sherry

How about trying Walgreens or CVS online?  Even though local stores may not stock alternate brands, you might find success though the mail order route.

Thanks to all of you:)
Sherry youre so sweet!
I did call my doctor and he said if I needed another prescription that's not a problem but I can't find anyone who has anything but the CorePharma brand.
Jaded, you probably have Activis which is what I usually get, where did you find them?
I also had the doctor call me in some Phenergan and he also added Omeprazole.
He was very concerned. I had left a message with the nurse and he called back and ask how he could help. He is such an awesome doctor.
I do not know what I will do. I will try the meds he called in tomorrow.
Hopefully my pharmacist will have some luck.
Thanks for all your support , you have all been so great!!!!

I have had the same problems, same meds, same state!  I have the secondary explanation for my heartburn and nausea, though, so I wasn't sure which it was.  I checked my bottle and mine is not made by the same company, it's something that starts with an A. ( I forgot the name between the time it took me to go look and come back and read through the posts and I don't feel like getting up again, lol)
I take phenergen for my general nausea and have taken it before the pregnancy because pain meds make me nauseated in general.  I also make sure eat with the meds every time because of my sensitive stomach.
I have had the same problem with finding a pharmacy that carries roxicodone.  It's very frustrating.  I even tried to talk to the doctor about putting me on something else, but as he dispenses at his office, he wanted me to keep 'trying it out".  It costs a good deal every time I get it, too.  Where I live, walgreens cannot even tell you on the phone if they have it, nor can CVS, and from what I've found driving to each Walgreens/CVS and walking up to the counter to ask if they have it, they don't carry it, won't order it, and don't know when they're getting their shipments, they say.  It was discouraging because I had a good relationship with Walgreens as my pharmacy prior to that. The doctor had to call around to independent pharmacies to find one that actually carries it, then I had problems because I hadn't changed my address on my Driver's License to our new address and the pharmacy only dispenses to city residents.  I can't change the address on my DL without my birth certificate and name change order after my divorce, either.  It's been so frustrating that I just buy it at the office pharmacy.  I'm moving to AZ soon, so I'm hoping it won't be such a problem there!
I'm sorry you're going through it, too!

Hi Sandee,

As if you didn't have enough issues no your plate right now, this has to happen to you.

Unfortunately and for the time being I don't think you have a choice but to add an antiemetic to your drug regimen. Most of the over the counter ones are not that great but please ask your pharmacist. I do find that Prilosec works well for me. I am not recommended that for you as I never do that but again please discuss this with your pharmacist.

Tomorrow I would call your physician and request a prescription antiemetic. I wish you well. Please let us know what you discover. Another shortage of oxycodone is not good news!

Take Care my Friend,
~Tuck

Sandee:  It's awful that you have to go through so much right now.  It does seem that everything is piling up on you these days.  You really didn't need this.

Can you tolerate  phenergan or a similar medication?  If so, it might help until you can get your brand or change medications.  I can't think of a more miserable combination that pain and nausea.

I hope you get relief soon.  Either your brand or a pain med that not only works for you but doesn't nauseate you.

I don't know.  I just switched to percocet to oxycodone due to the amount of tylenol in the percocet.  I have the mallincrodt(sp) brand.  I don't know if these will work for me either.  I'm not scheduled to take them until tomorrow.  Maybe I will switch back to the percocet to avoid problems like this, I'm so sensitive to medicine it's not even funny.  These meds makes me ill feeling like this until my body gets use to the med.

If it doesn't work, you may need to go back to your doctor and get a different med.

Sandee,

I'm SO sorry that this has happened to you. You know when it rains it to pours!!! I'm glad that your Pharmacist is doing this for you and trying to find it for you!!

I don't take roxicodone I take Percocet for my BT and the Fentanyl Patch for the ER. Sandee, I'm at a loss as what to say to you as this is so upsetting to any of us that reads this because you are so important to ALL of us on here. You have been thru so much lately and it just makes us very sad!! I hope and pray that your Pharmacist will be able to find the brand that you are looking for. If not I definitely wouldn't hesitate to check with your Dr.!!

Please keep us informed as to how you are doing and what you have found out. You know that you are ALWAYS in my Thoughts and Prayers.....Sherry

I hate that this is happening. Even when you find a med that helps you and then this happens, not fair is it? I hope your pharmacist finds some for you. I think they can call other stores and get some I know that is what walgreens did for my son when they didn't have his. I hope you get lucky and they find some for you. And i hope this added stress isn't making your pain worse! Hang in there!

Thanks Jamie:)
I have been trying to find out why the companies have stopped production for an hour now.I am about to call the company and see what I can find out. I have called everywhere from here to Tampa just about! I do not understand this. There will be a shortage again if this keeps going on:(
I had such a hard time finding them when the the shortage happened awhile ago.
My pharmacist is calling to the companies that are still in production to try and order from them. I believe any other brand would be better than the ones I have.
So frustrating!

I have not had that brand. I know when they stopped making my sons benadryl I had a heck of a time trying to find it. I could find the grape but not the cherry which he liked and then I couldn't find any of it cause one of the companies making it quit and shut down and it took forever for another company to get another supply up and out.
Sorry you have to put up with this and I hope you are able to figure something out so you can keep on that med. Have you tried calling in another town? I know it would suck but if that is what works for you then I would keep calling around to see if anyone has it and if they do get another script. I know I wasn't much help and sorry about that. Wonder what happen with the DEA to make them stop making it.
Best of luck,
Jamie
