Definitely check with the doctor on it. My dad has them and they are so painful. But once you rule out anything serious, you can easily get rid of them. East a banana or two. Also, get tonic water (with quinine) and have a glass every night (small glass will probably do.) That will usually take care of the leg cramps.
I would do what Sherry said and try like water also they say bananas are good for leg cramps. My husband use to have bad charlie horses so he started eating bananas and drinking more water and they got better. If they are bad you should be calling your dr to see what is going on.
Hope everything works out.

Hi pwarner,
Welcome to the Pain Management Forum and I want you to know how glad we are that you have found this Forum! You need to understand that we are not Doctors. The only people on here are CP (Chronic Pain) Patients. We share our experiences that we have had with our different medical problems.
I'm sorry to hear about your cramps. I have the same thing that you have during the night. It's extremely painful expecially when my foot cramps!! I have to get out of bed and stand as quickly as I can to help it go away.
These can be caused by several different things. You might be getting enough fluids (water) is one of the most common. Also, Low calcium, Low Magnesiml, Low Potassium, and Low Vitamin D. These are most likely what might be causing your. I have to take Potassium and Vitamin D to help with mine. I'm also trying to be sure that I drink more water.
There are a couple of more that less likely to be the problem and that would be cirrhosis of the liver which leads to ascites and also people that are having kidney dialysis also can experience this problem.
It would be to your benefit to get a blood test done and check your levels and see if they are where they should be.
Best of luck and please keep us updated on how you are doing....Sherry
