So sorry he is in such pain.  It just isn't fair.  I think the doctors' need to prescribe something to take care of the pain.  Request that the doctor make sure there is minimal pain.

Hi Just Me,

Your b/f is not an addict just because he has chronic horrid pain and requires large doses of narcotics. His dose it very high. He has probably developed a high tolerance to the medications but again that does not mean he is an addict. He most certainly is dependant on narcotics and will suffer extreme withdrawal symptoms if he ever has to quite taking narcotics but again that does not make him an addict.

I see your other post request dosage equivalencies from morphine to fentanyl. It may be a good choice for him. Depending on who you talk to Fentanyl is 80 to 100% stronger than morphine. However sometime it will have to end. There may come a time that his tolerance is so high and he cannot take a stronger medications. I assume he is being followed closely by a PMP.

Every one's pain is different and for some learning to "chill out...relax...listen to music.." just doesn't get it. I am glad that these diversions work for Doug. That's great news. But your b/f should not feel like a failure or weak if these approaches have not or do not work for him. We all respond differently to different treatments, medications and approaches. He may benefit from seeing a PM Therapist which may help him deal with the pain and life changes that have been forced upon him due to the accident.

Best of luck to you and your b/f. We are here to support you and him. I hope you will keep us updated and let us know how he is doing. He is lucky to have such a kind and caring g/f in you.

Take Care,
Tuck

we all have pain that is why we are here, everone has a story some  good most bad . Morphine for 7 years  basically is now addiction .  I too have lots of pain issues , take the "meds" but i have found the biggest relief comes from learning to get rid of stress   , chill out , relax  . listen to relaxation music       It cant hurt  it is free also and for me i lets me cut back on the  meds   ( tramadol and lyrica)   GOOD LUCK
