Need psychiatrist who manages chronic pain in Houston, TX

Hello all:
I am an intractable pain patient who has been on methadone (120 mg ) and actiq for break-thu.  My doctor who was an intractable pain psychiatrist passed away unexpectedly and I was left without care. I have been going to a pain management ( spine and sports) since he passed away and have no quality of life as I had the past 10 years with my previous doctor.  Can anyone recommend a psychiatrist in houston, tx area ( as they seem to understand chronic intractable pain and have compassion for patients who suffer from pain ) who manages intractable chronic pain with methadone? I was previously under the care of a psychiatrist/neuro/oncologist for 8 years before going to my psychiatrist who passed away.

I sent you a private message.  I go to a pain management doctor in Houston who actually does neurological oncology, pain management and also has a degree in psychiatry.  I know that he prescribes Methadone because he has me on it, but I don't know about the Actiq.  He's a wonderful man and a wonderful doctor, though.  I've been going to him for 8 or 9 years now.

Hi I've been on methadone for 8 plus years and I'm looking for a pain management doctor who will continue my treatment so I do not have to go to a methadone clinic it feels degrading the doctor that you are talking about the one with the degree in Psychiatry as well sounds perfect is there anyway you can give me the name of this doctor in Houston I would be totally grateful I am 30 and have one child I have no other choice is where I live please if you could give me the name to this doctor I would be truly grateful
My email is ***@****. I have 3 herniated disks and I have been in pain for years and the doctor finally convinced me to have surgery to try to fix it and now the pain is worse than ever! I was prescribed to methadone for the pain for years but I moved to Houston and can not find a doctor that will prescribe it to me. I’ve been offered strong pain pills but methadone is what works best for me. Please if you could send me the name of that doctor I would be extremely grateful. Thank you so much

Hi Ghilly:

I just came across this website because I am in about the same position as loriromactot.  I have so many kinds of pain from atypical trigeminal neuralgia to osteoarthritis, to bad disks, to a narrowed spinal canal, dessicated disks, a synovial cyst in my neck, a tarlovs cyst in my sacrum and  my psychiatrist has just been abusive as heck and the pain management people all want to do some steroid injections and one has actually lectured me on being thankful for everything I have in life.  I am going out of my mind and the razor blade sensation that I have between my teeth and the nerve pain going down the back of my throat are making me want to die.  I really need help badly.   I badly want to stay alive.  I have been out on disability and I am afraid to not go back to work because I am afraid they will pull the disability and I am afraid that if I return to work they will come up with a reason to fire me.  I have a boyfriend, but I am so sure that eventually he will leave me that I tell him to leave because I know he will in the future because I am not normal.  Crazy, huh?  He is all I have, but I am tired of him having to suffer because of me.

The dr that the person was referring to was a dr that I had been referred to but because of the cost I didn't go see him I went to one that took my insurance. She was really great but because of the abuse out there she was targeted and presumed by the authorities. She lost her license and I was referred back to a very conservative dr who like most are interested in quantity of patients mainly mild cases .  Needless to say I have had problems ever since now this dr is getting out of Pm drug therapies and only wants to do interventional pain control procedures I am sure it has to do with money . Filling your day with surgeries. Is very profitable I am sure finding another dr that deals with intractable pain for someone with a 15 year tolerance is almost impossible also many of the Drs I have seen in the past for this have moved to other areas or practice groups like company's some have done what my most decent dr has done other have gone back into anesthesiology only  I wish I could learn of a dr around houston area I already  travel there I live near Beaumont Texas   And houston has been the only area that they practice in including the ones that come to Beaumont they come over set up practice then send young jr Drs to be there and they never come back if anyone has a suggestion PLEASE let me know

I am an new resident of Texas... we moved here because of my husband's job..I have seizures and migraines extremely bad. I had a surgery that got staph infection which I almost died from and has left a huge indentation in stomach that looks like a shark bite. It left damaged nerves that feels like a hot knife stabbing me all the time. I had one hernia surgery and have postponed another one almost 3 years now. do to an injury at a job I had I fracture my L-12 vertebrae and over the years I have herniated, bulging discs and needless to say it just gets worse and worse. Now my neck is nvolved. I need to find a neurologist and pain management doctor near Galveston or Houston area or even further than that. I can't do much and it's taking the fun out ouf my kid's life and it's not fair to them either--3 teenagers ages 18, 16 and 14.  I have insurance and on medicare and Medicaid. you can email me at ***@****. thanks for the help I am at my last straw
