Need to find new doctor

Hi i am new to site. I have been on my same meds for over 4 yrs. An with same doctor. But I knew he was leaving to go into neurology but didnt think it would be a problem that i could get my meds from another dr. there. But come to find out this new dr. dont believe in oxycontin an i was on 30mg 3x a day along with percocet 10-325 3x a day . For my back problem (degenerative disc disease, disc narrowing.an bulging disc among other problems with back) So for years i have been on the 30mg 3 times a day an the percocet10-325 for break through. Now this dr. gave me the percocets but gave me MS cotin 15 3 x a day. How is that going to compare to what i was on . Also i have had morphine in past an it doesnt agree with me i had  reaction to it ! I need to find dr that will keep me on what i was on but how do i find one?

I recommend that all opiate maintained chronic pain patients keep and use a medication safe.

with the long half-life of methadone, you will probably not experience withdrawal symptoms going 48 hours without your medication.

The fentanyl will appear in a urine test.

Thanks , I an trying to find a dr. who will help me to stay on current meds but its hard to find one that dont wan t to do injections or SURGERY. which i am totallty against especially if meds are working why mess with it ! This dr. i saw that gave me the ms contin Scares me she didnt even listen to me try to tell her i dont tolerate morphine well, i get sick an itch an also get headaches. So do i fill script or wait till i see diff. dr. I can fill the percoett one but should i get the other one an take so dr. can see what it does to me ? I figure im going to be misserable anyway not having my oxycontin ? Why does one dr have to mess with anothers way of perscribing your meds if what he was doing worked???? An if i try to find new dr, i dont want to be accused of shopping !!! Cause its not my fault my dr, of over 3 years left it wasnt my choice to find another dr. But here i am looking for dr to get what ive been on for years AN was working !! This Really *****!

The dose of MS Contin is not equivalent to your current dose of Oxycontin...by a long shot!  Taking 15 mg of MS Contin 3x a day is equivalent to taking 10 mg of Oxycontin 3x a day.  I hate when doctors sneak in a significant dose reduction through a conversion to another opioid!  Even factoring in a cross tolerance factor, your dose should have been at least 30 mg 3x a day.  But to get the same strength you were getting from the Oxycontin through MS Contin, the dose of MS Contin should have been 45 mg 3x a day.

Expect to experience increased pain and withdrawal symptoms.  I am so sorry this has happened to you!  Don't increase your dose on your own.  Consider bringing in opioid conversion results to show him that to get equivalent strength from the MS Contin, the initial dose should have been 30-45 mg 3x a day.  Make an appointment to discuss this with him immediately upon getting withdrawal symptoms from the new medicine so that he can see your discomfort.  Hopefully, he will get you on a stable dose of MS Contin that works for your pain.

My doctor doesn't believe too much in Oxycontin either due to the stigma that is attached to it from the media.  But he tried basically every other opioid out there.  I was on MS Contin awhile back for about a year.  It didn't help much for me either and I have similar spine problems as yours.  The Opana ER worked well for a month and then stopped working properly.  We finally settled on Fentanyl.

If this doctor is unwilling to help you maintain the quality of life you have carved out from the dosing level through Oxycontin, consider seeking out a different doctor to treat your pain.  But to make a long story short, you are significantly underdosed!
