New Medication from the Psychiatrist

Hello everyone!  I had my appointment with the psychiatrist today, and let me tell you, I am really glad that I had the appointment. Some of you have seen my posts recently that I've had a lot of trouble going to sleep and actually staying asleep. In the past few weeks I've actually stayed up 2 or 3 days all night long, and gone into work.  I spoke iwth my psychiatrist and he decided to keep me on some of the same medication and then changed it to other medication.

I'm still taking the vicodin 7.5 ( 2 tabs every four hours) I'm still on the Lexapro 20 mg once a day, Clonazepam 1 mg once a day at bedtime, Ativan  (previously Lorazapam, isn't that hte same thing) 1 mg  1/2 to 1 pill twice a day, and the new medication, they took me off trazadone 100 mg 1 pill a night to Seroquel 25 mg 1 to 2 once a day.  I've got a few friends that take seroquil and it's been a medication where they couldn't function with the medication (including my sister and have had to change because she couldn't funtion the next day), so my question is this.  Is there anyone else taking seroquil right now, or have you taken it in the past?  How have you done with it?  I spoke with my psychiatrist because I told him that the trazadone was giving me terrible nightmares and that was the big reasn for the change, but has anyone taken it and had strange reaction?  Now, I'm talkng about sleep walking, real rash,  weight gain, etc... anything that I need to know about before being filled?  Thanks for reading this and please let me know about this medication.

Thanks,

Karen

Yes Lorazepam is Ativan.

Seroquel most common side effects are Constipation; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; increased appetite; lightheartedness; stomach upset; stuffy nose; tiredness; weight gain

I do not have personal information on this drug. However it does not have the reported sided effects that other drugs in this class have been reporting.

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects with Seroquel.

And like all medications everyone reacts differently. I think it is worth a try. If you notice unbearable side effects you can discuss it with your physician. As always please let us know how you are doing and how effective the medication is for you.

My Best,
~Tuck

I've never taken it, but my son did a lot of years ago.  He was given it for sleep.  He had huge ADHD and could never sleep at night.  It did help him with the sleep but it made him very dopey during the day.  I felt like I had a semi-comatose kid.  It did not fit well with him.

Of course, he was a kid.  I wonder, though, why they haven't given you Ambien, or Ambien CR or Lunesta?  I take Ambien and it works wonders.  No groggy feeling the next day. My BF just started it and he is very pleased with it, too.  Good luck.  Hope to hear how it goes.

I have not been on seroquil and don't know anyone that has been. I hope it works wonderfully for you and you start to get some rest. I can relate to having to go to work when you DON"T feel good. Lack of sleep, pain, bad combo. Hopefully you get to sit all day? There's no way I could work a job right now where I have to stand up. And I got a note from my doc saying what kind of chair I need and they had to get it. I hope your chair is comfy :)
Good luck! I hope you got some sleep!

I think the Seroquel also helps with some people and their pain.  I'm pretty sure it's Seroquel, my PCP was going through a list of meds and he mentioned that one.

I hope it helps you.  If it doesn't, you'll have to try another.  I not aware of the side effects with this one.  From the sounds of it, this one has some unpleasent side effects.

One of my favorite website to look at people's reactions to medications is http://www.askapatient.com/  This website takes in anybodys opinion sort of like ratemds.com. Just type in the name of the medication and you can view a rating or add a rating.

I am so glad you feel better after this appointment. I hope the meds work better for you. I have not been on it and have never heard of it but I am hoping someone else on here has. Do you feel better since you took a nap? Are you going to be able to sleep tonight since you took a nap? I really miss taking naps, when I was on vicodin  I would take a nap everyday when my kids was in school and boy do I miss those naps. it was one of my favorite things to do. The vicodin would make me sleepy but not to bad.
Have you looked online to see what all you can find out about Seroquel? Sometimes I search posts about meds on this website and hear about people that have been on them and how it worked for them. When it is coming from real people and not a website telling you about the drug I think it can be better.
I hope you are able to sleep tonight.
