HI Guys,

OK This will be the last Up-date for awhile and I'm happy to say that she will be going home today!!  She is on the Fentanyl Patch right now and they will be doing the exploratory Surgery on September 22nd (she said 23 rd today, BUT I believe that she FIRST said the 22nd SO we will see EXACTLY when in a few more days). After the surgery then they will reevaluate the pain meds and see where they stand and adjust them accordingly!!

Karen should be back on the boards sometime soon and HOPEFULLY STILL feeling REALLY good as the patch has RELIEVED all the pain that she was having.  :)

I Love You guys and want to THANK YOU once again for ALL the LOVE that you have shown to "Our" Karen!!........Mama Sherry

                                                     GREAT NEWS!!!!!

Tuck this is from Karen VERBATIM ----  "Tuck, Thank you - You nailed it!!!!!"

Karen said that her Doctor's had said the Fluid was from her old surgery and happens "a lot" after this type of surgery!  Everything is looking OK and they will do the exploratory surgery on the 22nd JUST to be sure that NOTHING else is wrong but they FEEL that everything is OK!!  All of "our" Prayers WORK Guys!!!  She will be there for a couple of more days to be sure that she is getting better and then she'll go home and come back for the surgery - to "check everything out" and to double check everything.

Needless to say Karen is VERY HAPPY and RELIEVED!!!  If anything else comes up then I will be sure and let ALL of you know what's happening!!!

Thanks for ALL of your thoughts and Prayers for Karen........Mama Sherry :)

Karen JUST got back and they DON'T think the Fluid is anything at all to be worried about. GREAT NEWS on that front.  Other than that we know NOTHING!!  Probably won't have any more updates until tomorrow sometime AFTER the Doctor's have all been in.  Her PCP WON'T be in until tomorrow morning and the OTHER surgeon won't be in until tomorrow more than likely.

At least we had SOME GOOD news.  SEE keep the Prayers coming guys - they are working so far!!!!.. :)  :)   :)

Love to you all.....Mama Sherry  :)

Hi Everyone,

They will be draining the fluid that is in the Upper right Quadrant today between 1:30 and 3:00 PM and they will of course do a biopsy on it (they ALWAYS do this when they remove fluid in these types of cases) so keep you fingers crossed  as well as your thoughts and Prayers coming!!!!

I'll update everyone as soon as I get MORE info. :).......Mama Sherry

It's heartwarming to watch the community as they come together for "one of us" ...one of our MedHelp Family Members.

If Karen ever thought she didn't have very much support or that ppl were not concerned about her....wait till she seems this thread!  :o)  :o)

I'm proud of the support that each and everyone of you are extending to our fellow chronic pain friend.

Blessings to All the Good Hearts out there,

Just checked with Karen and the Specialist is a GI Doctor.  He hasn't been in as of yet BUT they have NOT fed her ANY food at all since she has been admitted.  Her PCP(?) is suggesting to him that they do the Surgery tomorrow INSTEAD of waiting until the 22nd of September. She told Karen that she "didn't see any reason to wait until the 22nd to do that surgery" so ANOTHER indicator that this ISN'T life threatening at this point at all.  EXCELLENT NEWS!!!  She doesn't need that. The Doctor is thinking that this could possibly be linked to the Chronic Pancreatitis that Karen has had since College. So that could explain why she has been running the Fever etc.  We'll have to wait and see what they find BUT that seems to be what her Doctor is thinking according to Karen. Karen has had a couple of bouts of the Chronic Pancreatitis since then and this could be another one.

Hopefully we'll know something pretty soon!!!.......Mama Sherry

The Doctor has been in and now she is waiting for the Specialist.  I've inquired what type of specialist BUT haven't received a reply back of as yet SOOOO hopefully, he's there now.  I KNOW that's asking for a lot BUT that's what I'm hoping for!!!...Mama Sherry

Tuck - you are remembering exactly right.  She was sick continually after that also and then began with all of this ADDITIONAL pain. I wouldn't be surprised if they did get it wrong.  That SURE makes sense with all that she has been going through.

I received a message from her this morning and as of 10:49 am NO ONE has been in yet to see her.  I haven't heard from her since and HOPE that SOMEONE'S been in by now!! She ALSO said that they haven't DONE anything as of yet either.

SOOOO EVERYBODY PRAY that they at LEAST DO something!!!  Waiting IS the worst part of it - that and NOT knowing!!!!

I'll let  you ALL know as SOON as I find out ANYTHING.  If anyone would like information on how to contact Karen in the Hospital you can PM me and I will be happy to give it to you. :)

Keep those Prayers coming.......Mama Sherry

Jaded I initially thought the same...an active bleed but than when I remembered that her emesis has never been anything but bile (according to her) it didn't make sense that this was an active bleed....coupled with the fact that there was no surgical intervention. But these are only my thoughts and I could be 100% wrong.

Her symptoms of vomiting, pain and fever have been going on too long in my opinion. I hope they are able to discover just what is causing all this.

Sherry.....If I am remembering all this correctly...The surgery to remove the "sludge" from her remaining gallbladder ducts never actually cleared up her symptoms. At least according to what I have read from her posts. So maybe they misdiagnosed this from the very beginning and missed the actual problem. It may not have been this old sludge that was causing her symptoms.  But I tend to over-thinking these things! :o)

At any rate please tell her that she remains in my thoughts and prayers.....and we hope she'll be back home and feeling better real soon.

Hi Bree,

Right, IF it were life threatening then she would have been rushed into surgery immediately from the ER even before being taken to a room.  :)  So you are correct it is VERY good news!!  Don't worry, I have a feeling that EVERYONE of us was concerned about that too!!  It's nice to get even a SMALL amount of encouraging news.

NOW if they can FIX this problem then "OUR" Dear Karen will be able to come home SAFE and WELL!!!  So EVERYONE continue our thoughts and Prayers AND even keep our fingers crossed that EVERYTHING works out!!!

Karen thanks ALL of us for caring like we do!!!.....Mama Sherry

Oh!  I'm glad it's not an active bleed!  I'm sorry if I freaked anyone else out by saying it was.  The collection of blood is still concerning.  I suppose it's not life threatening that we know?
I hope she is well soon.

Jaded...and all,

It's my understanding from Sherry that Karen does not have an active bleed. It is a collection of blood in her upper right quadrant. My thought are in the area of her recent surgery. However that has not been confirmed.

Still the ER MD was very dismissive. Shame!! Shame!! Shame!!

Oh no!  Internal bleeding and they don't know the source?  That is very scary.  I really hope someone mentions this to the ER doctor who saw her the last time.  This could have been picked up if he had bothered to check.  I know it generally requires certain tests but they should have done them sooner.  Who knows how long she has had this internal bleeding and how much blood she has lost?  Hopefully this is the reason the liver tests came back so high and not something in addition to this.  Although I don't know anything about these tests and whether that is possible.
I really hope they get this taken care of soon.  I know you will let her know how concerned we all are for her and that we are praying for her.
Thank you for keeping us informed and while you're preparing for surgery, too.  You are such a blessing to us all, Mama Sherry!

That poor woman has been through so much .I will be watching the board for more news .I am so worried about Karen ..This is just awful .I don't know what else to say .I feel so bad for all she has went through and now this ....
