Pain In Right Side Under Ribs

I am an 18 year old female and I probably shouldn't be going to the internet for medical advice but doctors scare me! I have had a pain right below my right breast and under my ribs for years now. It only happens when I sleep on that side and never any other time. There has always been a small bruise-looking thing right around that area, but I've never NOT had that. I also feel like there is a dent in my rib cage right where it hurts. Like I said, there is a large amount of pain right when I wake up from sleeping on that side. Any suggestions as to what this may be?
Thank you.

I hadn't even thought about that. That definitely could be a possibility. Would that result in the "dent" I feel in my rib cage?

I'm sorry I thought I had asked this but seemingly I didn't  :)

Is there ANY possibility that your Bra could be pressing right in that area and bruising it which combined with sleeping on that side is causing this pain?

Just a thought.  :)..........Sherry

Hi morg,

I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad that you have found this Forum.  Please understand that there are NO Doctors on this Forum. We are ALL  CP  - Chronic Pain - Patients that help each other through our own experiences and expertise that we have gathered through our own CP Issues.

You are correct when you say that the internet isn't the BEST place to find medical advice - YOUR own Doctor is the BEST PLACE to go - ALWAYS.  HOWEVER, MedHelp is a WONDERFUL place to come to ask questions and to get some ideas about what MIGHT be going on.

I personally have not experienced what is happening to you BUT there may be some others that will come along that have had this happen.

HOWEVER,  you REALLY need to go to your Doctor and explain to him/her what is happening and let them figure out what is happening.  This has been going on for a very long time now and you need to get some answers so that you can get rid of this pain that you have been experiencing.

PLEASE let us know what you find out from your Doctor. We will be looking forward to your update on what you have found out.

Good luck........Sherry
