Pain in my knees when bending

I have had this weird feeling in my knees and also some popping but only when i bend it, if i sit for more than two minutes my knee gets tight, sort of like my knuckles before i crack them, i am overweight but my knees don't hurt when i walk just when i sit or have to bend them at all also if i sit for a longer time and feel the need to stretch my legs out i feel as though my whole kneecap is rotating with my leg it's hard to explain but its as if i can feel my bones moving and grinding against each other and the pain is horrible. I am not Morbidly obese last time i checked how much i weigh was about a year ago and i was not even 250 lbs i have gained a bit of weight but not so much and like i said i can walk and run as much as i want but when it comes to bending my knees its horrible. I am also flat footed and i have heard that that can cause lower back and knee problems, another thing i am a 15 year old male if that helps at all.

I am glad to hear that all your knee pains have gone.

Just be aware that with arthritic problems, things subside and then can flare up again.

Also if you tick that you wish to add posts to your Watch List, you tick the little box below the Post a Comment Box.  Also under a question you can choose to watch too.  This will then be in your Watches.  so when you highlight My MedHelp you will see options that come up and click on Watches.  This will be list of all the forums that you choose to watch.

I did read that people who are double jointed, do suffer from arthritis problems.

I am not double jointed, but have osteoarthritis in most of my joints now, but my right knee has got worse and I can't straighten it.  It has got moderate degeneration of the medial compartment and patella.  My doctor has referred me for physiotherapy.  It's not as bad as it was over the last few months, when the whole leg was very painful and swollen and I couldn't walk.  Can't take Tramadol nor Ibuprofen as they make me very ill and worsens the swellings.

If your knees are becoming a problem for you now, then I would suggest you see your doctor who will probably send you for an xray to see what is going on with the joints.  Physiotherapy give you advice on the right type of exercises to do to strengthen the muscles surrounding the joints.  I was told by physiotherapy that walking (bending the knees) in the swimming pool is a good form of exercise.

Take care shinty.

Best wishes.

Funny you should say that about being double jointed. I'm double jointed in my knees, but have arthritis in my spine! I'm sure the knees are on the way to becoming a problem though!

I still feel you should see your doctor with regard to your knees and your knuckle problem.

It may be that you have a condition which is double joints (can't remember the medical name for it).  If you are not careful now, you will end up with arthritis problems later on in life.

It is always best to get medical advice.

Best wishes.

Now that I read all the comments I just want to add, the popping is not as bad as you may think it will happen when I don't stretch out my leg for more than 10 minuets. I can not stress this enough, if I do not stretch out my leg my knee gets tight like my knuckles if I don't crack them.

When I started reading your message I imagined that you were a fat old lady.  What a shock when I got to the bottom to find that you are only 15 years of age.

The crunching and popping that you hear is called crepitus.

I agree with the others that you do need to go and see your doctor, possibly he may send your for xrays to find what is going on with your knees.   But you would benefit from seeing a physiotherapist as regards the right type of exercises to do to firm up the surrounding muscles that support the knee joints.

The physiotherapist will also be able to tell you if you need to wear supports for your knees.

It is not uncommon for young people to suffer from knee pain problems.  But if you don't do anything about it now, it will steadily get worse.

Best wishes.

It could be arthritis you know. i always thought it was an "old person" disease, until i contracted it myself at a very young age. I agree with evewisewoman- you should make an appointment with your PCP to find out exactly what's going on with your knees. Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

Hi Almassou,

I would suggest that you make an appointment with your family doctor so
you can talk to him or her about this problem with your knees. I wish
you well, Eve.
