Pain in right side

I have had this sharp pain in my right side for 4 years now.  It started sporadic, but is now constant.  I can't sit, drive, or go anywhere because I don't know how bad it will hit.  I have been diagnosed with IBS, but with Align, I have found my stomach problems decreased dramatically.  I have had every test for GI and chest (colonoscopy, blood work, GI track, liver biopsy, CT scans, and a liver MRI.  All tests were normal except my liver was enlarged and my liver enzymes are high.  I take medicine for depression, bi-polar and pain.  My gall bladder was removed last year but I am still in pain.  The doctor has no ideas what it could be or how to help.  Is there a test I should ask for, a doctor in the inland empire that might have some ideas or something I can do?  I am miserable and depressed.

Hi Slramirez,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am sorry to hear that you are having horrible undiagnosised pain. We can relate. I apologize for my tardy response to your post.

It sounds like you have had a lot of tests the appropriate testing done. How many physicians have you seen? I am wondering if another physician with a fresh set of eyes may be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

The one thing I can suggest is that you continue to search for a diagnosis. I know how discouraging it can be when no physician seems to find a cause for your pain. But keep looking. It took me years before I was properly diagnosed and treated. I know that is true for others here too. I gave up and that was not the way to go.

IBS can cause pain in any part of your abdominal cavity.  Have they suggested that this may be the cause of your pain?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. We will look forward to your updates. We are here to support you.

Take Care,
Tuck

I would like to find a different doctor to review my history, but I don't even know what type of doctor to ask for.  I have seen 4 GI doctors and 2 MD's, a chiro and a psych.  Yes, I have been told it can be from IBS, but I don't believe it.  The pain does not change based on the food I eat, only my stomach problems.  Today, for example.  I vacumned my room and started doing laundry and then "BAM" I am bent over in excrutiating pain, hyperventalling and unable to stand up.  It took 2 hours and drugs to dull the pain and it was horrible.  I feel so useless, I can't do anything and I never know how bad it will get.  I sat down in a car the other day and within minutes I was in pain, sweating and in tears, so I can't even drive.

Thanks for the encouragement

Hello Slramirez and I welcome you as well.

I'm wondering if you have ever been tested for Hepatitis C ? Elevated liver enzymes are very common with the Hep. and produce pain in the right side of the stomach. IBS can also be secondary to the Hep. Many people who suffer with this disease also suffer from IBS. If you haven't been tested, maybe you should chat with your Doctor about it.

Just a thought.

Anyway, I'm sorry that your suffering so. It certainly no fun and can put a damper on life in general.

please take care and good luck in the future.
