Pain lower ribs.

Hi,

Im 21 and i went to doctors about 3 years ago with pain on the lower left rib, its not beneath by rib like other peoples, its the actual bottom rib bone itself. I was sent for chest xray and was eventually told its a pulled muscle and required no treatment other than rest. 3 Years on, the pain is excrutiating, however there is a twist. I now have the exact same pain on the right lowest rib now, the left is much much more painful, and aches/throbs constantly, the right comes and goes every few days. How can it be a pulled muscle if its GRADUALLY developing on the other side too, the pain is horrendous and im sick of being told, its a pulled muscle rest. I cant go through another 3 years of pain like this.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Toolman,

I have not injured myself no, and the fact that this pain is developing very gradually on the right leads me to believe it isnt muscular pain. Im actually in England, so it would be a long old trip to central California ay ;-) As we speak the pain on the left bottom rib is unbearable, but ive learnt to cope with it. Absolute agony, worse today than i can ever remember, hence the post.

your bottom ribs I believe are floating ribs correct?  I am an ex motocross/supercross racer who has broken many ribs and even punctured a lung.  My floating rib on the left side was damages and I wake up every morning with a stabing my kidney feel.  Doctor says they dont want to do anything until it actually causes a problem.  Darn insurance company baloney I am sure.  Did you injure yourself ?  I hope you have insurance?  Get your self to a real sports orothepedic doctor in your area!  If you are in central california may I suggest Stanilaus Orothopedic Clinic.  They specialize on some motocross stars.
