Pharmacies dont Have my Pain Meds! (Suddenly)

Hope Someone can help, advise me How ..Where I can get my Meds without which I Can't even move. Im a PM patient, trying to get my Drs Rx. OC 40 mg BID filled.    I had to take my 9 yr old daughter w me , While I was in terrible pain to 4 Big pharmacies...they checked inventory, None had them in stock. !!!  after Iasked  pharmacist CVS to advise me, telling her about my RA n Other Chronic Pain..n Surgeries she said will probably have them Wednesday or Thursday. A week?. Been harder the last few months but this time I had to go home empty-handed. Hopeless, terrified. Without this medication I'm unable to move. I'm sick.  The Most Practical Question..Does ANYONE KNOW Is there a different DOSE..OR TYPE of Similar Meds, Pharmacies WILL have in Stock  20 mg?  Also get 10 mg Oxycod.  Would 10/325s be more common.?   Is Hydrocodone a Better Option for Availability??. ANY HELP, Advice on Drs Meds..Pharmacies who r better Would be SO APPRECIATED!   Thanks..

I have the same issues w/my pain meds. I take 3 100mg morphine er tabs daily for my back issues. This yr has been a nightmare. Every month I have to get on the bus(we have no car) and try each and every pharmacy in the area. I live in Laughlin Nv on the border of Az. These pharms' wont say on the phone if its in stock. I have had to wait from 1-4 wks to get my prescript filled. My wife has same prob w/her hydrocodone 7.5s. The pharms tell us that Obamas admin is severely limiting the amount of pain meds they can receive a mo. Its basically first come first serve on delivery day. Its really getting scarey for those of us that cant get out of bed w/o our meds.Scarey!

It's really bad in Florida, still.

Not only was there an initial shock in pharmacies refusing to fill legitimate prescriptions this year - wow, was I treated like a criminal - I had to go to a pharmacy I'd used 15 years ago, who kindly filled my prescriptions monthly since January of this year, always making certain to have mine in stock...

Until this last month.

The DEA hit him. Hard. Told him he could not fill prescriptions for folks who lived outside the city limits of his store. He had 5 times the volume of these pain meds exiting his store monthly - folks from hundreds of miles away went there, just because they could actually get their prescriptions filled.

I stopped at 14 stores Monday to get my prescriptions filled. FOURTEEN, eight in the city my Doctor's office is located and seven in the city in which I live. The 7th one, the one that filled them all, was so unlikely, it was a fluke I was victorious. My Dr appointment was at 7:30 am - I left that office at 8:30. I got home, finally, 12 hours later.

What in the WORLD is the benefit of this nonsense? Why are the pharmacists involved, anyway?

Just wanted to share my own experience - but preparing to go through that nonsense again next month, too.

I agree. I use SAMS Pharmacy and they are great to me. The first time I went in I made sure I was very polite and asked to speak with the Pharmacy Manager. I asked if he could order my meds, he told me not a problem and he would make sure he ordered enough every month to have it in stock. Twice in five years they have had to call Walmart and send me there to fill my meds but that is all. They have been great and if you do not have insurance call around and get the lowest price cause SAMS will match it. Wish you all well.

i ask about where u are because many places are clamping down hard on the oxy's! My clinic wants everybody on suboxone!  some want you on methadone! All due to the abusers and chronic pain folks will just have to suffer. Opiates do work for some.....and makes more pain for some----opiate induced hyperalgesia (google it....also maybe you tube?).....we all need to speak up about how we are being treated ......om shanti.

I am glad that you were able to fill your last Rx. Going from a 40 mg dose to nothing without any help, must have been brutal!

I've weaned on and off my meds, a few times and that was a little tough. But I doubt that is was nothing like what you must have just experienced.

Like you I worry about where I am going to have to go the next time that I refill too. This ssucks.

I've been asked that some question "are they narcotics" and my answer is "Yes, that's why I'm calling. Do you have time to check right now or should I call back later?"

Well I ended up Researching, and writing down the phone numbers of 10 pharmacies around me. I just decided to listen to you guys and try stop and shop. I picked up the phone and actually had three medications to fill and I said I just wanted to call you and ask if you have these in stock. Immediately...pharmacist Says "Are they narcotics?" t? Right away the attitude..n stigma n their Suspicious nonsense. wow. why ? I replied I have three medications just so I'll just let me know if you have them and um they did! they had Oxy 10s. I was so relieved. But Will they have it next month? who knows. Right now  I'm lowering my dose cause I'm just scared. The 40 milligram prescription I went to 6 pharmacies nobody had it I had a coat pocket and I was so upset I actually lost the script! Never Lost 1 in my life. I sure wasn't going to ask my doctor for another prescription. So...No I  never got the meds. Can u imagine how I had to cope w that?. this all goes back to the DEA and back to Obama the laws changing the DEA is attacking the pharmacies and not allowing them to fill their orders for this kind of medication. I can't believe this stupidity. We are med and pain patients!. We are giving a legal prescription this is all above board and legal why are they messing with doctors in legal activity instead of focusing on illegal drug activity? Unbelievable

A few years back no one seemed to carry 10 mg oxycodone.  Every month I'd be calling all the pharmacies.  Most didn't carry them it.  Others had it on order but it seems the order never came in.  I wound up getting 5 mg for a while.  The shortage went on for a long time.  One pharmacist told me it was a manufacturing problem.  You can try telling the pharmacist you'll be needing so many evry month and see if they can order them.  If it's more a manufacturing issue, then maybe you can change the dose or switch to a different Medication.

WHAT i MEAN BY CLINIC IS A HUGE COMPLEX THAT OFFER MANY MANY MED SERVICES, BUT NOT BIG LIKE A HOSPITAL. THEY HAVE THE IMAGING EQUIPMENT ONSITE, SMALL OUTPATIENT SURGICAL PROCEDURES, SPECIALTY DOCTORS OFFICES AND EVEN REGULAR FAMILY PRACTICE OFFICES, AND AN ON-SITE PHARMACY. ITS ACTUALLY VERY CONVENIENT. I PERSONALLY DON'T USE IT BECAUSE OF THE DRIVE BUT I DO KNOW ITS THERE IF I NEED IT. (So sorry about all the caps, I didn't realize they were on and my hands hurt way to bad to retype that, so my apologies to everyone for that. 8-)

Another thing to try maybe, is to let them know ahead of time that you will be bringing in a new script and ask if they will order it for you. They might, they might not, but Its worth a shot. I know it totally *****. Another idea to consider is using a clinic or hospital pharmacy or even a grocery store pharmacy if there's one in your area. Good luck and let us know how its going OK.

So you never got your medication then?

I'm in CA. I took my Rx to my normal pharmacy, which is a Walgreens. They were not too busy, at the time, so I asked to speak to the pharmacist. She told me that they probably would not have my medication for a "while, if ever" and that I should go to one of the 24 hour or larger Walgreens. Then she gave me a few locations that she thought might have the medication that I needed.

I went home and called several locations (3 or 4?) that were closer and they did not have it. When I called a location that the pharmacist gave me, they had it in stock.

If I were in your shoes, next time call first to see if they have medication that you need in stock, if they don't ask if they know who might, then you waste less time.

Do not demand anything and be nice, nice, nice when you do call. I can't say anything about your pharmacy, but I know that mine can be very, very busy at times and have long lines.

Maybe they are consolidating the pharmacies that will carry the schedule two meds, or maybe it's just the OC because it is so expensive, I dunno. Like you I hope that this is not a long term thing.

I had trouble this month as well. I was instructed by my local pharmacy, which is walking distance from my house, and then my doctor to go to a main branch of a Walgreens.

I take 20 mg OC. I got on the phone when, I found out that my local pharmacy would not have the medication. The location that I had to go to was driving distance from my house and I had to have the hubby go to fill the Rx.

I was a wondering how many others might be going through the same issue as some might not have someone who could help them. I also wonder if next month will be the same? Aughhh
