Please Help

I have been having pain in my lower back (si joint), right side and pelvic area. It has been about 4 months, one xray done and 3 doctors. I have been going to physical theropy for about 3 months. My right hip rotates out of place and my pelvic bone shifts too. What could be causing this? I also have pain during and after intercourse. Menstral cycles are normal, until this month, slightly heavier.

Please Help.

Hi and sorry you are having this problem. Sounds like your Hip or SI joint dysfunction. I agree you should get an MRI to rule out other things. You won't see SI joint dysfuction on an MRI as the SI joint moves only a small amount (milimeteres) but you may see the pelvic misalignment or other.  Xrays don't show that much. I have pain over the SI joint area too. Don't know what it is yet after a year of three PT's two who say SI joint and the ortho surgeon says pelvis is aligned and the spine looks great. No inflammation on the bone scan. Besides the physical exam the only other way I read is to get an SI joint injection to see if that takes away the pain. I haven't had one yet and am afraid it is painful .but so is this. Sometimes it is hard to get diagnosed. What doc's have you been to? PT's really shouldn't be diagnosing and they do vary as 2/3 injured me. I am now worse off due to the PT's than I was to start with by far. It really too bad I went to them. Not all are bad just that they don't have standardization in the way they work on you and so forth. Some are B.S. level some have Ph.D.s some are manual therpists. The two that injured me were manual therapists. I do know a good one that isn't on my insurance that I wish I had paid for. Oh well. Good luck with this.

I have SI joint pain as well. My MRI is negativo and bone scan negativo also. But have had the pain for a year and 3 PT's later. One of them injured me and made it worse. They still haven't diagnosed it but the orthopedic surgeon said it is dynamic (meaning from movement) and not structural. The pain doctor said myofascial but the two /3 PT's think SI joint dysfunction.  I may have it but my pelvis is in alignment accordign to the surgeon. The pain doc didn't do a physical only consult. I have some days where my pain is low and some high or moderate. I am in the process of getting another opinion from a physiatrist (rehab/physical med doc). I haven't even been able to get in the car. mkh9
