Pls pray

Hi All-I go in tommorow for a spinal epidural shot. Say a prayer for me! I am having bad pain in L4 and L5 from disc herniation. Plus Fybromyalgia. I take 10 mg of methadone but want to get off it. Hoping this will do the trick.

Hi Ingrid,

I didn't take the time to read your posts from atonicat and I SHOULD have.  She gave you some REALLY good information on what to expect from the shots!!  If it were me I would contact the Doctor tomorrow and tell them EXACTLY what is going on and ASK them WHAT you should be expecting to happen and IF they don't work HOW soon you can try this again!!!

They should be able to give you some idea of what exactly you should be experiencing at EACH stage after your shots.  I KNOW that with the RFA's it can take up to 3 or 4 weeks for them to take effect.  FORTUNATELY, for me I got results IMMEDIATELY!! I was VERY fortunate and I KNOW that I was.  I ALSO, have the VERY best Doctor that there is as he is an anesthesiologist and ALSO has specialized in Pain Management and is THE tops in his field!!!  I've been told that the anesthesiologist's, more often than not, are the ones that you TRY to get WHENEVER possible as they know EVERYTHING there is to know about pain management and ALSO about HOW and WHERE to place the needles to give the BEST results when giving epidurals and RFA's as they have been specializing in this for their entire medical training!! :)

I'm glad that you have a GOOD Doctor, also, and I KNOW that you will get REALLY good results EVEN if you need to get another round of shots and this can happen often.  Just check and see what they say tomorrow and let us know what's happening.  You KNOW that I tend to WORRY about EVERYONE of you all on here. :)  You are ALL my kids.  :)

I'm sending you MORE HUGS and waiting for your update tomorrow.....Mama Sherry

Sherry, kat, tuck, atonicat, opus,kd4141;dgg,

Thanks everyone for all your helpful post, I really apreciate it! It helps a lot to recieve so much support when you are going through all this pain! I will keep you posted as to what Doc says Friday. I want to start another thread about how much my animals help me when I am in pain. I have a little dachshund and a cornish Rex cat who have saved my life more than once through this! It's nice to have there little personalities about when I feel awful, it's like they can read my mind!

Happy Holidays!
Ingrid

Hi Team- I made an appointment for Friday to see Doctor again and talk. We are moving from Md to Fla soon because of many reasons but a big one is my fybro does better in the warmth. I may have to follow up with these shots there. Not sure. It takes a monthto get scheduled in Md for a shot. The Doctors are really strict here when it comes to pain management. It's hard to get treatment and a Doctor who you can trust and who trusts you.

I'm sorry but I can't give you SPECIFIC information about the type that YOU are having as the RFA's that I had are different and ACTUALLY kill the nerve.  It thn takes it SOMETIMES up to a YEAR or once in awhile up to 18 months to 24 months!!!  Of course, I'm HOPING and PRAYING that mine will take 2 years.  LOL  Even though I KNOW that is VERY wishful thinking - however I will take what I can get and SO FAR it's at nine months AND GOING STRONG!!!

Your shots are an epidural and I just don't have answers for you about that.  From what I've heard you get them repeated pretty frequently  BUT while they are working you are probably pretty much pain free. :)

It may take a few days BEFORE the shots take effect.  IF for some reason they don't give you the relief that you want - DON'T hesitate to have them done again as SOMETIMES BOTH THE EPIDURALS  that YOU have had done as WELL as the RFA's that I had done don't work the First time and need to be re-done.  :)

PLEASE keep us informed as to how you are doing as we ALL care for you....Sherry :)

When I got my shots I went in once a week for three weeks for one shot in each side of my spine at l5/s1. I felt better probably when I went to get my second round. By the last round I felt almost no pain, and that continued for about a month when it all came back. I would love to get more but I hate the way steroids make me feel. And I gained 15lbs from them. So I told my doctor, no more steroids.

Hi Ingrid,

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. I can relate to a lot of it. Stay strong. It is NOT in your head...pain is REAL and we can all lean on each other here. I will pray for you. Hopefully your can get another shot soon so you can feel better to play with your kiddos and taper your meds a bit - if that is what you wish to do. :)

Hugs,

Kat

Sherry-thanks so much, this has been the hardest pain year for me ever. I'm 38 and I feel much older but I am glad to find people who go through similar things. Especially the part about people telling you it is all in your head or that you are drug seeking. My family doesn't seem to understand but my husband is finally on board. I think I may need another one of these shots because I can feel the pain creeping back. I am going to see the Doctor. I was hoping to get off the methadone or atleast go to something less severe. Please keep me in your prayers. My goal is to keep my meds really low and use yoga, swimming but some days the pain is so overwhelming. Now especially in my low back I feel pretty hopeless about it. But I have very strong faith. It pulls me through. But the worst part is I watch my children growing up before my eyes and I am missing their child hood. It is the most bitter pill to swallow. One day at a time...

So GLAD that you are through the epidural shots. NOW you just have to wait.

I will NOW tell you something FUNNY that happened to me when I had my 2nd RFA 2 weeks AFTER my left side had been done.  I had my right side done and I felt a STRANGE feeling in the muscle when they did 1 of three RFA shots on my right side.  Well my Doctor definitely successfully hit the correct nerve BUT he also hit my muscle as it was in the way.  Well, when I got up to walk the OUTSIDE - NOT the inside - of my leg wa NUMB!!!  I had to walk on the INSIDE of my foot because that was the ONLY muscle - the inside muscle - that WASN'T asleep in my right leg.  The nurse said that this is quite a normal thing that can happen and that it would only last for a few hours. This was about 11:30 am and by 3:00 pm my leg WAS back to normal!!!

It SURE felt funny and they even took me down to my Daughters car in a wheelchair so I didn't have to try to walk that far on the "NUMB" leg.  LOL

So I know how your legs can feel "funny"!!!  :)

I JUST realized that YOU have NEVER been FORMALLY welcomed to the Pain Management Forum and I want to CORRECT our wrong RIGHT NOW!!

Hi Inga,

I have had you in my thoughts and prayers....and I have been "rooting" for you. :o)

Injections can be frightening....even though they are often beneficial You are brave and I admire your courage. I hope the injection has proved to be effective.

I am wondering how you are doing today.

Peace,
~Tuck

I am fairly new to this sight, but not to CH. I too just had a cortisone injection (Monday) and I am new to methadone. I must say that this is the best I have felt in 3 years. I hope you feel better as well. Thank God for this sight!!  We are not alone!!!
I wish everyone better days.  My pain is still there, but a little more tolerable

Hi everybody-thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Sherry, I got your last post right bf they wheeled me in to the OR! All went well. My legs are feeling weird today, pain is about the same but they say it may take a few days to kick in. I'm a real scarty cat in the OR so it helped to know that I had my medhelp peeps rooting for me!
