The pharmacist is sticking his nose where it doesn't belong.
He thinks you're "drug seeking" because he's seeing HC Rx from different docs. He therefore thinks is his business to play "gatekeeper" to keep you from becoming "addicted."
If I were you, I'd find another pharmacy.
Philnoir, I greatly appreciate your response! And, I do agree with you-I just spoke with someone at my doctors office-and I explained it to her and she said that she would get with the doctor and get back with me...again, thanks for your response!
NO...the pharmacist is NOT sticking his nose where it does not belong. It is correct to question WHY she is getting the same pain medication from 2 different doctors....
I am assuming she let BOTH doctors know what the other was prescribing?? She will only be allowed to have one doctor give her the medication, BUT NOT BOTH..regardless of dosage.
Don't fill anymore prescriptions from the surgeon. You are only allowed one doctor to prescribe pain medication. When you have more than one doctor prescribing, the pharmacy will not fill it as they see this as Doctor shopping. Just stick with the 10 mg Hydrocodone from your primary doctor and you shouldn't have any more problems at the pharmacy. If you do that and they are still giving you problems then just take your scripts to a new pharmacy.
Maybe you could talk to your primary Dr and the surgeon and for the time being have your primary quit refilling your meds and get them from just the surgeon. Once you're feeling better you can go back to having your primary prescribe your meds.
Hey, Totie...I do appreciate your responce...I did find out that you are correct-however, after seeing my surgeon today; he explained to me that he was allowed to, also, prescribe the same meds (hydrocodone) given the fact that I just came out of surgery-but also told me that he couldn't continue to give them to me. He did give me a prescription of 30 tabs 1 twice daily (enough to last me until I go see my pain management (who I was referred to).

BetterGetBetter, I'm sorry for my late responses...I did find out that you are correct-however, after seeing my surgeon today; he explained to me that he was allowed to, also, prescribe the same meds (hydrocodone) given the fact that I just came out of surgery-but also told me that he couldn't continue to give them to me. He did give me a prescription of 30 tabs 1 twice daily (enough to last me until I go see my pain management (who I was referred to). I want to say that I really do appreciate your responses-thanks!
remar, thanks for your response-I did see my surgeon today; he explained to me that he was allowed to, also, prescribe the same meds (hydrocodone) given the fact that I just came out of surgery-but also told me that he couldn't continue to give them to me. He did give me a prescription of 30 tabs 1 twice daily (enough to last me until I go see my pain management (who I was referred to)...again thanks, for your response!
I hope you're doing alright. Thanks for updating all of us because we do worry about how people are doing.
Thanks, remar! By the way-being that the surgeon gave me the prescription today...would you recommend going back to the same pharmacy-or just switching pharmacies...all and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
So you were able to get your prescription from the surgeon today? That's great. I'm so sorry to just be getting back to you. I would have recommended the surgeons office call the pharmacy and tell them about your situation. You would think that since it's a new prescription there would be no problems but I'm hearing so many stories from other people that are having such a hard time getting their pain scripts filled. I wish I could give you more advice but I always go to the same pharmacy when it's time to fill my scripts. If you had problems today, which I sure hope you didn't, do call the surgeon first thing in the morning to have them call the pharmacy to okay this. Please let us know how everything turns out. It's horrible being in so much pain with no relief.
1.) Pharmacists CAN and will ask questions if they are required to. It does not mean they are "suspicious," or mean.
2.) If the pharmacist says he won't refill unless he talks to your surgeon, then get on the phone and call your surgeon, tell him to call the pharmacist.
(...using the "kiss" "keep it simple" principle here)
3.) If you want to keep on good terms with everybody, make sure your doctor, the surgeon, and the pharmacist are all on the same page (everybody knows). Call your doc, call your surgeon, then call Mr. Pharmacist and let him know they'll all be calling him.
4.) Keep in mind you have some *serious* medical issues with REAL pain. Know that if anyone is "mean" to you, then to h*ll with them! Bring in your MRI and say, "Hey, YOU try having 10 fractures in your neck!"
I'm sorry for your pain. Nobody should think twice about making sure you have the proper treatment.
