Should i go to pain management
Hello i'm new forum im a 38yr old female who worked in the medical field for 17yrs have been dealing with this pain since 2000 and it's gone from bad to hell, i was just wondering if i'm on the right meds?
I have bulging disc,ddd,facet all in the lumbar spine, Along with Fibro i have been on motrin 800mg,percs 7.5mg, Valium 5mg All prn i was also put on amitriptaline, But the PAIN dosen't go away.
Now that it's getting colder it's worse it's very hard to have a normal life anyones help PLZ.

Well guy's i think im going to have to go to the ER! I can't function or walk very well im really scared and don't know what to do. If i go what are they going to do for me i will take any help to take this pain away all i could do is lay down last night had a hard time to shower, I can't seem to care for myself.

I feel for you. I have been suffering since 2000 as well. I had a wall fall down on me and smashed up my thoracic spine. I went out to pain management clinics and it was the best thing that I ever did. If you get the chance go and take from it any tools that you can. You have allot of choices for pain management. I have had a pain pump surgically placed into my body and is plugged into my spinal cord. This let me cut way down on oral meds. and has increased my quality of life. Don't give up. I know exactly where your coming from. I've been there and still am myself. I have good and bad days and I imagine I always will.
I fought with the Government for 3 years trying to get the SSDI I so deserved and your right, working for so many years and paying our SS...wouldn't you think they would make it alittle easier for us being that we can barely function. I finally had to hire a lawyer to get the benefits I needed.
With your Husband being on the patch, what do you think about yourself going down the same path?? Have you been able to discuss this with your Doctor? Believe me, if it wern't for the patch I use, I would not have the quality of life I have today. It has been a godsend for me. Well my friend, hang in there...you will eventually find some pain relief that works for you. Take care and have a wonderful holiday season.

I will try and get a PM it's just one thing after another maybe when i get my medical coverage in order i will be able to find more help. I have to say my PCP is great but i know it's time for something else i have had a nerve block injection NOTHING.
I have to try and stay positive and beat this MONSTER that's what i call it THE BACK MONSTER! Thank's again for your help and support.

all i can tell u is i have been dealing with chronic back and leg pain since 1991, 3 years ago found a pain mangement dr. He saved my life, i now have a half way normal life i can play with my grandkids, able to take walks, now i still have pain all the time but it is controlled. there are times i have flare ups, Tuck and Molly can attest to them all chronic pain sufferes have flare ups, but i truley beleive your quality of life will be much better with a pain mangement dr.. thats my 2 cents worth

I just feel sooooo tired of everything almost tired of fighting, Will loose my medical coverage Dec 31, Right after a Fibro dx now i have to deal with state aid and i have no ENERGY to keep going, i'm so not normal anymore went to the store for my grands and it was awful, The PAIN is controling my life i feel like i'm home bound.
And still fighting SSD it's so unfair considering i worked all my life the system makes it so hard just want to give up. Thank God for Med help at least here i can release everything. SORRY for being a drama queen i know there's people that are worse off but sometimes i feel soooo Alone in this HELL PAIN LIFE.

I too am sorry to hear of the constant pain you suffer with. There are far better pain medications out there that would control your pain better than what your currently taking. A PMP is a good idea, in my opinion and from what I've read from other members, a PMP ( Pain Management Physician ) is more suited to handle chronic pain than your regular Doc. In Wisconsin, we see our regular Physicians for pain control so i can't tell you anymore about the pain clinic but I hear it's good and knowlagable.
Have you ever thought about a pain patch that works on a 72 hr basis? It's called Fentanyl and it has worked very well for me in the past. You might want to inquire about it.

If it helps you at all we know what you are talking about and struggle to have something close to a normal life.
Your question regarding a PM Clinic is a good one. Everyone has different feelings about it and I think much depends on past experience and the state in which you reside. In my state PMP only evaluate your condition, make recommendations and perform treatments such as epidural injections. They do not prescribe medications.
In my humble opinion any thing that could help your pain is worth a try. A PMP or PM Clinic may be beneficial for you. Have you discussed your pain with your PCP? Does he or she know that you feel your pain is not controlled. I would certainly start there. If your PCP is unable to offer additional suggestions, treatments and/or medications I would request a referral to a PMP.
Others will post with their opinions. Sundays, actually weekends tend to be a bit slower than week days. Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates. Take care, Tuck
