Still in pain

I had ankle surgery 2 years ago and I am still in pain!  I do have a rare scar tissue problem, but Im not sure that this is the problem.  I have tried spinal injections and injections into the ankle and foot.  I have been working with my doctor on trying to figure out why there is still pain and have tried many medicines.  I have done phyiscal therapy.  I still take vicoden for pain but even that it is not working very well anymore.  My doctor seems to think that I may have rebound pain, but Im not convinced.  I am at a loss as to what to do.  Any ideas why this may still be going on? I dont know what to do anymore and dont want to be in pain anymore.  I also dont want to have to keep taking the pain meds forever.  I think my doctor might be giving up too.
Any ideas could help.  Thank you and God bless

CPS is a very painful and difficult to treat condition. I am sorry to hear that this may be your diagnosis.

I understand your confusion. Sadly physicians don't always agree. You may end up with a third opinion and don't be afraid to seek it. This is your body and your pain. You have a right to a correct diagnosis and treatment.

Please let us know how you are doing.

My Best to You,

I am sorry that you are still in pain. What was your surgery for?  During or after your surgery did the doctor use in the IV or prescribe levaquin, cipro, or avelox. These are fluoroquinolones and are know to cause neuropathy. A coworker's father was given levaquin for pneumonia and now has neuropathy.

I hope this helps,

Tuck,
Thank you so much for your encouraging words and advice.  I also believe that there are people out there who have rebound pain, but its not me.  Another doctor has told me that they believe I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.  It seems like there is a syndrom for everything.  I am normally a pretty healthy person and take good care of myself so this is perplexing.   Now a different doctor thinks its a different syndrome? So confusing.

Hi and Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Community. I am sorry to hear about your lingering pain.... after six months of pain it's considered Chronic Pain. My heart goes out to you!

In my opinion Medical Providers are quick to say, Rebound Pain. Don't get me wrong, it does exist but not as often as claimed. Sometimes when a the problem can't be easily found Rebound Pain is blamed. There is no way for me to know if you are experiencing that or if there is another component to your pain.

Scar tissue alone can cause gross amounts of pain. So the fact that you have "rare scar tissue problem" may be a huge contributing factor.

Have you consulted a PMP? If not I suggest that you do.... or at least obtain a second opinion. Often a new set of eyes can find the problem or a little thinking outside the box.

You are  your own best health care advocate. I encourage you to be assertive and don't give up. A physician that specializes in ankles may also provide you with good information. In my opinion it's time to look elsewhere.

I wish you the best and hope you will keep in touch.

Take Care,
~Tuck
