Sudden extreme calf pain

After blowing out  my right knee and subsequent surgery (it fixed the injury), I was walking at a leisurely pace and within one and a hlf steps my calf muscles had "locked."  The pain was excruciating on trying to take another step and I couldn't make my feet move in the "normal" manner.  To get to a point to where I co0uld sit down, I had to waddle flat-footed.  I had drank (as directed on the container) three containers of "Joint Juice" over a period of three days.  Could that have been the cause?  Haven't seen any warnings.  Pain lasted for about a week and occasionally returns.  Thanks.

I would certainly see the specialist that your PCP suggested. There could be treatment for you.

Pain without reason has no good purpose. Pain is normally the route in which our body tells us that something is wrong. We all know that Pain can become Chronic..... at which time it truly serves no purpose. In my opinion it needs to be determined if this has become Chronic Pain or if indeed it has a solution.

The cause of Spider veins and Varicose veins is due to the backup of blood. The leg veins have valves that serve as one-way flaps. If the valve weakens, blood can leak back into the vein and pool. What incident if any caused this situation is anyone's guess. Normally it's due to a variety of reasons including prolonged standing, hormal changes and heridity.

I've done some reading and couldn't locate any thing that correlated the use of Joint Juice to the painful issues you have noted,.... obviously that doesn't mean it's not possible.

At the very least you deserve pain control. If a specialist can't suggest treatments that may offer some relief than I'd consult a PMP. Life is too short to live it with pain that can be managed.

I hope you'll continue to keep in touch.

Best of Luck,

Thanks and, yes, I've consulted my PCP.  All she could do was offer to send me to a specialist.  I've slao noticed a marked increase in variscose and spider veins in my feet.  Have been stretching the calf muscles; don't know if that is helping or hindering but so far, I haven't "hit-the-deck" in agony though the pain remains somewhat.  I think I've altered my gait subconsciously and that may be the factor that is preventing the return of the most severe symptoms.  Thanks again and God bless.  Hwy532

I hope you'll consult your PCP about this pain. There are causes for your symptoms.  You should never ignore it.  Pain is your bodys way of telling you that something is simply not right.

I hope you'll share with us what you discover.

Best of Luck,

Thanks.  The "situation" is ongoing.  The degree is the only thing that varies.  Never know from one day to the next what the next 24 hours holds.  But, then, I guess we never do... :-)  Hwy532

Sorry I missed your post.

How are you doing now? Has the pain episode repeated?

Peace,
