Taken of 75 mcg Fentanyal put on Exalgo 12 Mg 2 a day

I have been on 75 mcg Fentanyal for 15 years. Since they changed the patch to the new one, I feel it hasn't been helping me like the old gel ones.  Mostly, the darn thing just does not stick at all.  I have tried to get the sticky pads to go over them or they just fall off in a few minutes.  I have dogs and little grandbabies in the house and they fall off and you don't know.  The dog got one once.  Saved her just in time.

Anyway.  I feel even though I am on other opiod medications, I feel I am withdrawling from the patch.  I am so scared.  This long acting Exalgo just does not cover it.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

That's a good option.  I have had them fall off.  One time the little dog got it.  Another my grandaughter picked up.  That was enough for me.

What is the "brand name"...I don't know anymore.  Is it PriaCare?

I have been in Fentanyl for 3 years. My doctor recently put me on the name brand Duragesic patches. They are smaller and they aren't filled with the gel. I put them on my side under my bra strap and it stays on really good.

Thank you so much for your answers.

I went off the Exalogo it wasn't strong enough.  Back on the Patch.

I have been on it for 15 years.

Thank you again.

Oh, the patch I'm trying this time is Sandoz.  Seems to stick better.

OH, I see the brand in the header. I have Never heard of it. Is it possible to change to something else? What type of insurance do you have? I have Medicare and get the generic but there are many generics to choose from. Call the Pharmacy and tell them that this particular brand is not working for you. I'm sure that either they can change brands or you can go somewhere else.

Please give me more info. Thanks,
Molly

Hi:

What is the brand name of the Patch you're currently on? I have tried them all. I might be able to help you with more information.
Have you tried Paper Tape? This is what I use to keep them on. Anyway, send me a PM or resopnd to this post and I will try and help as I am able.

Thanks,
Molly

Patches falling off are probably the biggest complaints I've seen here about fentanyl.  If you have oily skin, it's going to be a challenge to keep them on.  Sometimes rubbing alcohol can be used to dry the area of application and help keep the patch in place.

As you already know the, adhesive can be better or worse depending on the manufacturer.  The Nexcare brand bandages work well for patch covers.  They're made from tegaderm which is both waterproof but allows for oxygen exchange.  These bandages come in large sizes for knees and elbows and I'm sure one of those would make a good cover.  If the regular Nexcare doesn't stick, try the Nexcare Sport flavor.  Those babies are tougher than any surgical tape ever thought about being.

Can you change to a pharmacy that carries a gel brand for you next refill?  Or maybe ask your pharmacy to order the brand that works for you?

I know that 3M makes tape covers to go over the patches. There is a member here that can help you with this. I will send her a message and ask her to contact you:)

Definetly call the doc and let them know your problems and issues with the patches.  They should be able to do something if you are in withdrawls.   When I switched off the patch I felt a little withdrawlish for a day or two, but then was fine.
I hope things go well for you.

I have had that problem when I was on Fentanyl.  I was switched from my preferred brand to the gel kind (I did not like them at all and they did not provided 3 day relief) and I used medical tape around the outside of the patch to hold it on.  It seemed to work for me.  Call you doc and see what he says.  Are you wanting to come off the patch or are you just having withdrawals because the patch isn't sticking?

I am glad you are being careful with the patch.  At that level it would kill any non opoid tolerate persons

Hi,

Are you asking for a suggestion on how to keep the patch on? If so you may want to talk with the pharmacist about this. they may have had others come in and ask the same question.

Good luck.
