They are two different drugs. Hydrocodone is the generic of Vicodin. Oxyxodone is the same as Percocet without the Tylenol xomponent. I can't take hydrocodone due to itching. It's extreme, the itching is all over including itching in my ears and nose. Oxycodone is also stronger than Vicodin.
Be careful of all that Tylenol. They are taking Hydrocodone off the market all together and replacing it with a long acting med called ZoHydro. it is Vicodin without the tylenol 500 mg of tylenol is way way too much for your liver to handle. I am on Roxy's which is oxycodone 30 mg no aspirin they do fine and for the long acting i am using Morphine Sulphate.
I dont know who your pm doctor is but just from what you said in your message it sounds like he is trying to kill his patients they normally give hydrocodone with tylenol 325 mg for long term management there called Norcos. much easier on your liver.
It is all of the Tylenol that is making you itch, and possibly the hydrocodone.
See if he will give you 30 Mg Roxicodone which is just Oxycodone without the tylenol. they are strong and if you do need a little kicker just take one extra strength otc tylenol. as the tylenol makes the active drug more potent.
They are not taking Vicodin off the market completely, they are changing it from 500mg of Tylenol to 325mg of Tylenol. Hydrocodone can make people itch, its not necessarily the Tylenol that causes this, it just depends on your body.
One thing, i would NOT ask your doctor for 30mg roxicodone. If you were to ask for something that powerful that would send out a HUGE red flag. Think about this, he already took you off of percocets and gave you Vicodin why would he then prescribe something three times stronger instead? Seriously, don't ask for it, it might get you kicked out of pain management.
What i would suggest is you talk to your doctor and tell him how the Vicodin are working or not working for you and asks what he suggests. He might consider a different med or he might prescribe something to help with the itching.
Good luck to you.
