What happens if a doctor thinks my nose is fractured and he tries to 'relocate' the fracture, but my nose is not really fractured?

What happens if a doctor thinks my nose is fractured and he tries to 'relocate' the fracture, but my nose is not really fractured? We took x rays and he said they are inconclusive. My nose is a little crooked, but I'm not sure if it is crooked from before. What are the repercussions of getting my nose 'relocated' if it is not really fractured?

Hi Forrestj,

I am glad you found us at the Pain Management Forum of MedHelp. You pose a very interesting question.

I have the same question Mollyrae does. Did they take x-rays before and after the "relocation?" Fractures do not always reveal them self on a first x-ray. This is especially true if it is a fracture that is well lined up. Often the bone needs to begin the healing process at which time some calcification forms around the healing fracture line.

If the x-ray is inconclusive, in my opinion that would mean your nose is in good alignment. The fact that it looks a little crooked to you could be from the initial injury. If there is still some swelling of the tissues it may take some time for it to return to a more normal appearance.

There are no physicians on this forum. At the top of this page you may click on the Doctors icon, select a Doctor that best suits your question and post it for him/her. There are some great medical providers with different specialities on MH.

Please let us know how you are doing. Take care, Tuck

Hello Forrestj:

Welcome to the Pain Forum. When the x-rays came back inconclusive, was that before the proceedure or after?

If the Doctor did the proceedure and the x-rays were inconclusive before he did this then I'm not sure why he would take the chance of relocating if he was unsure. If he did this after the x-rays then I wouldn't worry. I really don't think he would do any further damage but I'm not a Doctor and I really can't give you advise on that. If I were you, I would get a second opinion with some new x-rays. Ask the second opinion Doc the same question you have posted here.
Take care and good luck,
Mollyrae
