What other options are there?

I'm currently taking 25 mg fentanyl(change out every 72 hrs) and 50-100 mg of demerol every 4-6 hrs for break-through pain from testicle surgery(chronic pain from this). My Pain Management doctor wants to go up on dosage of patch, but I would like to know what other patches are available other than Morphine and Fentanyl.Someone told me there was a hydromorphone patch. If so,please list name and dosages.Thank You

I thought dilaudid (hydromorphone) was only available either in pill form or injectable form, so I did a little research.  Here's the link to what I found - if you read under the section Formulations, it does appear that there IS an extended release version, however, it's not in a patch form like the fentanyl.  I hope this information is helpful to you.

Hi mixali,

First, I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. I want to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum, only CP  {Chronic Pain}  Patients that help each other with our OWN expertise and experiences that we have developed through our OWN CP Issues.

I'm sorry that you are having problems with your pain.  I KNOW that there is NOTHING stronger than the Fentanyl Patch.  A 25 mcg Fentanyl Patch is a VERY low amount.  If you are to try a higher dose it MIGHT give you the relief that you need. :)  We REALLY aren't qualified for give you dosing advice.  You RALLY need to discuss this with your Doctor.  He is the one that will know what is BEST for you and you SHOULD trust him to giv you the BEST advice as to what will give you the most relef for your pain.

I wish you the VERY best and HOPE that you will stay ion touch and let us know what you and your Doctor decide to try next for your pain.

We'll be looking forward to your next update............Sherry
