Had alot of issues with new meds.

Man it has been a long week. Last week I stopped all my meds cause I was in so much pain from swelling and the dr called and told me to stop all meds. I was on Embeda 2 times a day and gsbspentin 2 pills 3 times a day. The Embeda wasn't working at all so I flushed them. It is a pill that has morphine in it and another med to make you not feel the high of the morphine and not get addicted to it. Well so I thought. I stopped all meds at once just like the dr told me too and I went from Thursday to Saturday with out any  meds. On saturday I woke up feeling fine and I went to work and started feeling so sick to my stomach. I went to the bathroom and puked 10 times. I went home and layed around. I promised my kids I would take them to the mall so I had to. I was walking around and all of a sudden my back and legs and arms started hurting so bad, the more I moved the more I hurt. My husband said that is it we are going to the ER cause I was crying in pain. I went and I sat there for 2 hours crying so hard that I couldn't get air in my lungs and my legs started cramping up. The drs told me they was giving me some morphine cause I was going through withdrawl from it. I was shocked and couldn't believe it. I will NEVER touch that crap again. Anyway they gave me some percocet to help me get through the with drawls and even being on that I still feel them. Anyway my problem is I am about out of the percocet, I am trying to find a pain dr but it isn't easy. I have called both my nerve dr and surgern to see what can be done. I am so scared what the next few days are going to bring. I don't want to end up in the ER again and I can't go through that again cause I scared the crap out of my kids. Any advice would be great. Is there any other pills that can help me that aren't pain pills? The pills for nerve pain like gabapentin I can't take cause of the side effects are too bad. I can't live in pain like this and I don't want to go back on the gabapentin cause my whole world falls apart when I am on it and I have tried other pills like it and the same thing happens.

When I was in the ER I didn't feel like I was going to die I wanted to die. That was the worse thing I have ever been through in my life. I mean I have been not addicted to meds but depended on them and would go through with drawls but NOTHING like that and I am scared to death of it happening again. I will NEVER touch morphine again. It wasn't a good idea for me to stop all my meds in one day, I know that now and my dr should of never told me to stop them all at once. My surgern gave me some numbers of some drs they aren't pain drs but they deal with only nerve problems but that is like the dr I am seeing now that has me all screwed up!!!

Hi Jamie,

I am so sorry that you are having these issues. What was your physician thinking by ordering you to go cold turkey with no assistance? And with no preparation?

Have you contacted the physician that took you off everything? If not do so and request something to help you through the w/ds.

Molly is right, it's a tough ride but there is no way to avoid it if you want to be off all narcotics. It is not true a sudden withdrawal from medication is not a life threatening issues. It can be and ppl have died from it.

Any opiate will cause w/d symptoms, not just morphine. Have you posted on the substance abuse forum. They may have better suggestions for you. NO I do not think you are an addict, you are dependant like any of us that require opiates for any length of time. The only reason I suggest the SA Forum is because they have dealt with w/d symptoms and know better how to treat them.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates with interest.

Take Care,
~Tuck

No one has ever died from w/d's, you only feel like it.

You either have to get through the Withdrawls and then find a non-opiate medication or keep using oiates...there is not a huge option out there.
Sorry
