chronic chest pain for 3 years

I have been experiencing chronic chest pain for three years now and no doctor, or anyone else can figure out what it is. I sometimes have heart palpitations with the pain, and the pain will either be quick and sharp, or last for hours as a sharp pain or a dull pain or pressure. the pain is all over my ribs, in the front of my chest, the sides, even in my back where my ribs are. My doctor has started to be more concerned, because since the pains started, I have been losing weight. I am about to be 18 and I'm 5'2 and weigh 88 pounds now. I went to acupuncture to help manage the pain but it only gets rid of the pain for maybe a couple of hours. The pain is an everyday thing for me and stress and exercise seem to make it worse. I have had x-rays done, CT scans, an ekg done, and a couple other tests, but they all come back normal. All my blood work always comes back normal too, and my doctor says he is out of ideas on what to do. Does anyone have any idea on what I could do or what this could be?

I agree with eve, have an MRI done, and get a second opinion.

There are nerve endings that attach from the spine and carry around to these areas. It could be something as simple as a bulging disk.

If this has been going on for three years, what do your parents think? Have you ever been to the ER when you have one of these episodes?

Hi Lana95,

Just finished reading your comments. When you say my doctor, do you
mean your family doctor?  If this is the case, perhaps you should consider
getting a second opinion from another doctor. If you've been suffering
this chest pain for 3 years,  it sounds like there's definitely something
not quite right. What about about asking for an ultrasound of your
chest. I notice there is no mention of an MRI. Any doctor who says
he's out of ideas as to what it might be, would bother me. It tells me
he's not going to continue to try to find out what's going on and what's
causing your chest pain. Find another doctor who doesn't know
anything about your case and will see your problem through " new eyes"
so to speak. I wish you luck. Eve
