i totally agree with the block the persons talking about-its crazy how the cold medicine blocks the pain medicine. you feel absolutely nothing from the pain medicine while taking pseudo or other cold meds..crazy!
Hello Ijsmomma,
Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum, I am glad you found us.
I am a bit confused. Do you mean pseudoephedrine? I have never heard of it "blocking" any medication. I did do a search to see if I could find information regarding your question. I could not find a blocking side effect on any medication site.
This is what I did find: "Avoid taking diet pills, caffeine pills, or other stimulants (such as ADHD medications) without your doctor's advice. Taking a stimulant together with a decongestant can increase your risk of unpleasant side effects. Do not use any other over-the-counter cough or cold medication without first asking your doctor or pharmacist. Pseudoephedrine is contained in many over-the-counter medications. If you take certain products together you may accidentally take too much of a certain drug. Read the label of any other medicine you are using to see if it contains pseudoephedrine."
So in my experience and opinion pseudoephedrine should not have any blocking action. Others will post with additional input. Maybe someone else has found this to be an issue. There is also an ask the Pharmacist Forum that may be beneficial. You could also contact your local pharmacist who will have more accurate information than I.
Best and luck. Please let us know if pseudoephedrine does interact with pain medications. We are always eager to learn and do learn form one another.
