help for withdrawls from fentanyl patch

im  in detox from fentanyl. my dr. prescribed wellbutrin for 30 days. I was on 50 mg so I was given 25mg and wore the patch for 4 to 5 days before putting on a new one. after my last patch I started on xanax for withdrawls symtoms and put on a catapress patch. this worked real well and I feel like im starting to feel good. there are times my skin hurts and muscles hurt so that's where the xanax helps. I had neck surgery to replace a blown disc and know what pain is like. I occasionly have to take a percocet but its much better than being hooked on fentanyl. hope this helps anyone trying to to kick fentanyl.

Hi Pcbabe,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum at MedHelp. It sounds like you are working hard to detox from the Fentanyl Patch. I am glad you are succeeding in your goal. That's just great.

Most of us on this forum are not detoxing. Due to the extreme CP most of us have we cannot live without out pain medications, which is what ever medication our physicians have prescribed.

May I suggest that you also post your information on the Substance Abuse Forum. I believe that many of those members could benefit from your information and courage. Thank you for sharing. I hope you continue to do well. I am also glad that the occasion percocet is controlling your pain. I wish you continued good luck in your journey.

Peace, Tuck

Hello.

I agree with Tuck. The members on this forum are not detoxing due to the cp we suffer with. Although your information is valuable, it is not very useful in this forum.

Good luck in the future,
Mollyrae

I think detoxing should be open for discussion on this forum.  After all, detoxing is a part of the pain management practice, and one of the reasons other physicians refer us to a specialist.  Pain docs are supposed to be educated in this area and help their patients get off narcotic medication when and if they need to.

The addiction forum deals more with the mental agony of an addict's withdrawal along with the physical symptoms.  All of us here who are using opiate therapy should know what the symptoms of withdrawal are and how they can be treated.

I appreciate your input on dealing with the detox of fentanyl patches. I have been suffering from CP for two years after having a two level cervical fusion.  I am on 50 mcg patches and  my pain doctor will probably increase it again at my next appointment.  This drug terrifies me, but it's the only thing that has given me any relief.  I hope one day that I will be able to get off this drug and it's helpful to know that it's not impossible to do. Thank you for your positive input.  It's nice to hear that sometimes there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It's not at all impossible to get off the fentanyl patch.  That is, as long as your doctor understands detox and that it must be done slowly.  Going cold turkey only brings on useless torture and misery.

Like you, the fentanyl patch has allowed me to have some joy in my life.  I grab at whatever I can these days, and that joy is what keeps me going without losing my sanity.  :-)

hey-

zanax should not be helping pain or be used for pain relief. That is abusing the medication.

All (except JayBay):
I have to say, this is very elite'est forum. Someone posts begging for help in dealing with a drug that most of you are pretty familiar with, and because they utter the devil word "detox", you shun them as an addict (and don't say you didn't, because I can read between the lines).

Better helped in the 'Sudstance Abuse' forum pcbabe will be, but no words of encouragement, or words of solace? This forum is full of caring & nurturing people, and not one of you can offer a single word of advice for this person except for 'get off our forum'?

Shame on you all.

Microtoro:
If doses are controlled, Xanax is helps to ease the harshness of withdrawl symptoms.
