To be clear I wanted to add that, Morphine and Hydrocodone would not be "mixed together" for an injection.

Hi Barbarajean,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I am delighted that you found us and took the time to post. Are you prescribed IV/IM Morphine?

Morphine  (MS Contin, MSIR, Avinza, Kadian, Oramorph, Roxanol, Kapanol), is a potent opiate analgesic medication and is considered to be the prototypical opioid.  It is the "gold standard" in treating severe pain.

Morphine is found in opium, the dried sap derived from shallowly slicing the unripe seedpods of the opium, or common and/or edible, POPPY plant.

Natural Narcotics also called Non-Synthetic are derived from the poppy plant which includes Morphine. They occur naturally and or better put, produced by nature. Synthetic Narcotics are produced by man in a laboratory. Hydrocodone is a Synthetic Narcotic.

Jking is correct....and to answer you question again, no, Morphine does not contain Hydrocodone.  Hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the generic name for Vicodin, Vicodin ES, Anexsia, Lorcet, Lorcet Plus, Norco.

I hope you'll share some about you and your pain condition. We'll look forward to hearing more from you.

Take Care,

no, hydrocodone is vicodin.  Morphine sulfate is the active ingredient in morphine.  If you are worried about a possible reaction to the medication, I would speak to your local pharmacists.  I'm not sure if hydrocodone and morphine are in the same family of drugs.  I know vicodin and percocet are in a similar family (due to codine), but morphine is much different.  refer to this website.
