Rather than look towards medication, I would highly recommend taking a good hard look at accupuncture.

Not some western guy that just finished his one year training course in accupuncture. No, I'm talking about "the real deal." Someone from China who comes from a long line of generation-to-generation accupuncturists. Someone that's 70 years old, been doing it all his life, learned from his father, who learned from the grandfather, etc.

Use Google, use word-of-mouth.

It is absolutely mind-boggling the power of accupuncture.

Regarding DXM (dextromethorphan), stay away. Far, far, FAR away.

After you've given the search for an accupuncturist your best shot, feel free to post back and request help.

Hey, yeah someone told me to go to India to the auvedivc treatments. Are they deep tissue massages? That doesn't solve but something about the axis being off balance in your brain will restrict nerves like a rubber band then everything off. That's what I think I'd happening to me. My body had been basically weakening for 5 years since it began by getting hit by a car when I was walking. My head hit the edge piece at the top of the windshield as my body went through the glass so.. Yeah, I thought I was just sore but every few months by pain scale went up.. I'm still undiagnosed.. I feel like I'm 98 and the number is going up rapidly. The trying to have faith part is difficult at times. Doctors just send me elsewhere because they don't know enough about this. Good luck my pain people. May all of your answers be found!
Checking blood hemoglobin level and keeping it at safe range is something should be considered by feet nerve pain sufferers.

I had a knee scope 5 years ago for a menisc tear. The dr pierced the infrapatellar branch of the saphenouse nerve but denied it. I went through 2 1/2 years of steroid injections for pain and prayed to god to let me die. I chewed on a washcloth at night to muffle my crying and had a polar care unit. It ulati g icewayer around the lower leg. Finally a new dr did a nerve block I got relief and he cut and buried the nerve. I did fine until I fell a year later and it started again. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had that removed and received treatment. I think the tons of steroids fueled that. Then I found a dr who specializes in nerve transplants and had that surgery in September. It was a more extensive surgery and recovery than the previous cut and bury but worked 100%.  Then 8 weeks later I felt a snap at the top of the graft site and the nerve pain is back and worsening daily. I've had enough. I know this is a terrible thing to say. It if they offered to amputate I'd do it. So if there is an option to kill the nerve I'm jumping on it. I have no quality of life. Standing and walking is unbearable and I'm losing my balance from the pain just afraid of falling so rarely leave the house this is no life

I'm sorry but there is no standard of treatment to destroy the sensory nerves of the feet to treat neuropathy.

There is a new medication -- Lyrica (pregabalin) that is approved for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. Have you tried Lyrica?

There is also some evidence that high dose dextromethorphan is effective in reducing the pain of diabetic neuropathy by up to 25%.

I'm sorry to hear of your suffering -- I too have neuropathy from spinal stenosis, though mine is not yet as severe as you describe. I know how annoying it is to have burning feet, especially in the evenings when trying to rest.

Best wishes.

My podiatrist is injecting the nerve in my foot that causes me so much pain with sclerosing solution. It doesn't help with the tingling and eclectic shock feeling, but the nerve that constantly sends pain signals is getting better. I don't know if something like that would be an option for you or not.

Some do not realize the extent of this procedure. When you totally destroy the nerve you have no way of knowing if your doing something you should not do , in other words pain is to signal us that we need to stop what we are doing or we will do more damage. If you kill the nerves off there is no signal to let you know to back off therefore causing further injury. I would do as suggested and look at all the alternatives.

Hi mypain. Welcome to MH. It sounds like you've had it with the pain and will try anything to rid yourself of it but as Tuckamore said, that is an extreme step to take and you would not want the Doc to kill one nerve when it perhaps is the other. Please think of your alternatives, discuss all options with your Doctor. Please take care and we are here for you.

doctors use radio waves to shut off the nerve, not destroy it. it will last a few to several months.
Thanks dear Orellej
I did not know about this technique , at least a door of hope opens to some people of sufferers.
Mayo Hospital has conducted this and concluded as :

Radiofrequency neurotomy isn't a permanent fix for back or neck pain.
Studies on the success of treatment have been conflicting. Some people may have modest, short-term pain relief, while others might feel better for several months. Sometimes, the treatment does not improve pain or function at all.
For the treatment to work and for you to feel better, it's important that the nerves targeted by the procedure are the same nerves responsible for your pain.

Welcome to MH. I'm sorry you are having so much pain. You will discover that we can relate. I am glad you found us.

Yes there are physicians that will "kill" nerves. In my experience they usually are anestheseologists that work in pain management clinics. However that is a very drastic treatment. They are many things to consider before you resort to such a final treatment. Of course that is my opinion. It was offered to me some years ago for my leg pain. I did not want to live my life with a "dead" limb.

If they treat your femoral nerve and it turns out to be the sciatic nerve they cannot undue the treatment. So I suggest you very absolutely sure that you are make and educated decision, knowing all the facts, the pros and cons. I know there are times I would just like them to "cut it off" but of course that is unrealictic. I just get fustrated with the pain.

I wish you much luck. Please keep us updated. And take care, Tuck
