I have searched for "severe leg cramps" before and never found anything until I added "severe inner thigh cramps" and found all these interesting tips on the cervical cancer page and now here (I'm posting this on all pertinent sites). It made me realize I've been having these for about the same length of time I've been on triamterine! I now have new ammunition when I return to my doctor. She didn't have a clue when I explained the symptoms (NOT just cramps where you can walk them out, and NOT restless leg ...which I also have). I will certainly keep a bottle of potassium on hand and hopefully this will help. The cramps seem to be increasing (formerly maybe once a year, now up to 4-5 times a year....and once I have one, it's easy to get another  over 2-3 days, and the pain afterwards is pretty bad, too. Thanks to all of you for your answers (and symptoms....I thought I was the only one!)....and I hope all your pain goes away. This is the first time I've seen the Vit D info. THANKS!

Hello Chrissie and Nicky,

I am very sorry to hear about your leg pain. It is debilitating when you can't even walk. I had the same thing for about 8-9 months. It was much worse than a charlie horse. Rubbing it or standing on it, nothing relieved it.I too was nauseated and couldn't walk on my leg.  I had multiple lab tests looking for the reason. All were good until finally they tested my Vit D level and found it to be extremely low.

At the same time my son said he experienced similar craps when he worked in the sun. He said his was from drinking too little fluid. I explained mine were much worse and I didn't work in the sun. But I was desperate so I began drinking a bottle of a gatorade type product a day and took the ordered Vit D. I no longer have those severe, long lasting spams, cramp-like pains in my upper thigh.

I don't know if your condition is at all related to mine or if what I did will help you. I would certainly ask my PCP to check my levels of electrolytes and vitamins. Best of luck to you both. And please let us know what you discover. Take Care, Tuck

I read your comment on MedHelp. I too have been waking from a sound sleep with excrutiating upper, inner thigh pain. Unlike most cramps, standing up does not help. All I can do is sit on the edge of the bed and put my hand on my thigh and wait it out. Not fun! It lasts 3-4 minutes, which seems like forever when you are in that much pain. Have you found any relief?
