Before changing your meds, talk to an ANESTHESIOLOGIST!.
I am sure there are folk who take the same medications that you take, and manage to have surgery without having to change their meds too much. If you change your meds for your surgery, you may face a difficult have to fight to reintroduce the medications that have worked for you all of these years..
Tale to an anesthesiologist before accepting your doctor's opinion.
I apologize..... I overlooked that you mentioned you also take percocet as well. 30mg of Morphine is small dosage anyway so I think either doctor increase dosage OR switch to stronger opiates for breakthrough. You did not mention what milligrams it is for percocet? OR you choose to cut it down. Whichever you and doctor may decide what it would be best for you.
Hi:
Unfortunately, you're going to have to cut down considerably until your tolerance levels go down. This can be done over a few months. You'll have to ask your Doctor to prescribe something along the lines of Clonidine which helps the w/d or Suboxone to taper off of opiates completely for a while.
This is what we Chronic Pain Patients face. Our tolorence becomes so high that rarely does anything work anymore. You need to do this under your Doctors care. I'm sure that between the two of you, you can come up with a good plan.
In my opinion and what I would do in your situation would be to cut back on the opiates as much as possible along with the clonopine. Ask your Doctor about this combination. It may be the key to success.
My thoughts are with you.

I would advice to have your doctor prescribe you "breakthough" meds such as percocet, vicodin, oxycontin.. with morphine.
