Hello JMO,
I am sorry that your pain has gotten worse. Unfortunately that is the case for many of us CP sufferers. It is never an easy task to select pain medications that not only work but work well together.
The biggest concern with mixing Morphine with Xanax is the possibility of respiratory depression. You will find better information about the two medications compatibility from your pharmacist. I recently was on MS Contin (long acting morphine) and my PCP allowed me to take Valium at HS with the MS Contin. Obviously Valium and Xanax are similar. She had me take it first in the day time a few times when my husband was home to see how it would affect me. I did not have a problem with the two medications.
So I think it is a probability that you can take them together but keep in mind that they both depress the respiratory system. Adding any additional medications that has a similar action can be deadly such as an antihistamine. So be very cautious and vigilant.
I wish you the best in your search for a medication that will better control your pain and still allow you to sleep. Please let us know how you are doing.
Take Care, Tuck
Mixing? I take 80mg oxycodone x every 8hrs + 10mg Instant Release Oxy in between for breakthru pain - 3 or 4 per day to control my pain resulting from severe scoliosis and at night 0.5 mg clonazepam - this combo helps me.
