Doctors such as anesthesiologists, physiatrists, and neurologists generally are pain management docs. Which of these you see will greatly affect what kind of exam you have, what treatments are offered, and how your care is managed.
I too am confused by the idea of "repaired b4 i can have my surgeries". Generally conservative treatment (e.g.: pain meds, physical therapy, etc.) is tried before surgery, since it often works just as well and doesn't involve the risks. Hope your appts. go well.
I have never been to a pain management physician. My PCP prescribes all of my pain medications. It is very good that all of your scans have been sent over. That definitely does a lot of the leg work for you.
There is one thing that confuses me about your post. You say that you need to go to pain management to get the nerve damage repaired??? I guess I have never heard of such a thing. They can burn the nerves off, which can eliminate the pain for quite some time but they eventually grow back, and hence, the pain cycle starts again.
I am guessing that that is perhaps one of the procedures that will be offered. There are also pain medications such as lyrica or gabapentin that helps with the pain associated with nerve damage. These are in a class of medicines call anticonvulsants. So these might be offered as well.
They will definitely perform an exam and ask you where the pain is to identify the location of the damaged nerves so they can nix them. This is the only thing that comes to mind for repair of damage nerves. I am sure others will share additional information.
Good luck at your appointment and your upcoming surgeries.
