I take both. I think you are asking about oxycontin it lasts up to 12 hours, I take one at 7:30am and the next one 9-12 hours later depending on my pain levels.  Oxycodone is generic percocet and can be taken every 6 hours again depending on dosage and I take it for break through pain between doses of oxycontin.
Side effects are constipation, confusion, sleepiness, and all these side effects can lessen with time. If you just are starting either one of these prescriptions don't drive or do much until your really know how you are going to react.  The first few days and week to two weeks you will act differently than you will months in to taking this prescription.  Always check with the doctor and pharmacist about side effects and how to take it.

I'm not sure of your question and the answer you're looking for but I'll try. Oxycontin is the extended release form of Oxycodone. It should last up to 12 hrs. opposed to 4-6 hrs. with the Oxycodone. I don'rt feel that there is any difference between the two as far as pain management goes. Why do you ask?

Take care,
Molly
