Hi Wadster,

You've asked the 64 million dollar question. We are all unique individuals therefore what works for Bill may not work for Harry and vise versa.

Hydrocodone is more effect on my chronic SI Joint pain than Oxycodone.  There isn't a good reason for that and actually it makes no sense, it's just me. However when I have extreme pain in other locations Oxycodone is more effect.

If there was one medication that was more effective for everyone for every thing we sure wouldn't have all the different types of opiates. The pharmaceutical companies would go broke.

Pain Management is trial and error. It's finding the correct dosage and often the correct combination of medications that works best for you and your specific pain. A good PMP will work with their patients to determine the most effective medication regimen.

You didn't provide information as to your reason for asking the question. If you would like to add additional information you may obtain better suggestions.

Take Care,
~Tuck

You need to ask your doctor.  Opiates are a crap shoot because every patient responds a little differently to different medications.  Different types of pain also call for different medications, and they aren't always opiates.  Are you currently seeing a pain specialist?

Can you give us a little more information about what kind of pain your experiencing (Meaning, where does your pain come from)? Is it acute or chronic-pain?

Different medications work differently for different people. Also, some medications work better for some types of pain than for others.

If you could give a little more information about the specifics of your pain, it'll help a great deal.

Keep in mind that we're not doctors (at least I'M not!), and any advice we give you is based on personal experience, or the experiences of friends, family or acquaintances. Just thought I'd throw a little MH 'disclaimer' up!

Looking forward to hearing from you, and welcome to the forum.
