pain meds & new DEA laws

went to my doctors 1/6/11 to pick up my pain med Perc 10/325 script and before they would hand me my script I was handed a cup to test my urine as per the "new DEA Laws" in Fla. I was just there less than 30 days to have my every 2 month  face to face appt  and didnt have to do so? They would only say it's the New law, had me check off on a DEA form like paper what meds I am prescribed, then sign and initial ...as usual my doctors office staff are so very rude so i did as "TOLD" do anyone know What are they testing me for? I have heard several different stories?
I heard THC, Cocaine, Heroine, basic illegal stuff which I do not do so not worried  then I heard " you're being testing to make sure what you're being prescribed is whats in your system if you test negative then your  selling them?
What the Heck? Any of my med help buddies on here have any new info

Thanks in advance
Kim in Florida the ccccccold state right now Brrrrrrrrrrr

Hi everyone -

We are closing this thread. Please remember that we do not allow name calling, insults or political discussions.

We also have an active addiction community, so please be aware of how you discuss addicts. Many addicts started out on prescription meds for valid pain reasons, just like you.

Thanks,

Emily

Don't go to CVS, there are plenty of other places you can go.  They don't deserve your business.

I don't understand why you didn't sign a contact with the pain clinic. Mine basically  said you agree to only see their dr for this problem.  I don't see how you could possibly think you'd continue to take your regular meds from your pcp and from the pain mgmt dr.  ASK questions.  You went from 5 to 15 mg and you didn't think that was too much?  I'd explain to my pain mgmt dr what you've done.  I think you're going to have trouble with them if you say you were still taking meds from a previous dr.  If you aren't sure ASK your dr--that's why you pay them.  I wish you the best of luck.  Your pain mgmt dr will probably be watching you very closely.  Be safe :)

A here in TN if you need serious pain meds you have to see a pain specialist and have xray proof! This is a huge problem for those of us with disabling pain due to autoimmune disorders. Luckily my PCP has known me for years and has watched my body get worse and worse. When he found out the pain specialist would not give me anything but IV Tordal and steroids he started me back on Fentany patches. They have been a lifesaver. DRs here can only prescribe pain mess to under 40% of their patients and no case file is private as the DEA has the right to check your records if you are on pain meds!

You need to report the theft to the police.  Get a copy of it and bring it ti your doctor.  Are you in any withdrawal?  I had my purse stolen once and I immediately reported it.  I called my doctor and she said she would give me another script but it's a one-time thing.  Ultimately I'm responsible for my medications. If they're stolen, it means I can't guarantee they're only used as prescribed.  A lady two doors up from me got dropped as a patient after her house was broken into and her meds, among other things, were stolen.  Shemwas dropped because she hadn't locked her door or put the alarm on.   I live in a small town where everyone knows each other and most don't lock their homes or cars.  But we also have a big narcotic problem.

Need help finding a PM for my husband that has had 25 surgeries in the last 30 yrs.  We have bounced around from PM Drs that are rude and treat  him like a criminal.  He has had both hips replaced and back fusion that is cause severe nerve pain down the leg and hips.  We were told about the  Spinal Cord Stimulator but, we have Medicare and NC Medicaid which will not pay for the surgeries as it takes two.  One for the trial and one to put it I later if it works.

We are at the end of our ropes about the new laws and the treatment of people that need help just to survive one day as the pain is so bad.

Please send me an e-mail if you know of ANY Dr that will see us.  His primary Dr will NOT write for him as he is scared of the DEA as well!!!  This is stupid.  I wish some of the  DEA people would have to deal with the pain my husband endures on an hourly basis.

Thanks

It is insult to injury!  And I honor your level headed and patient attitude toward medical staff that seemed to me to be quite unworthy of trust.  The fact is, and don't get me wrong--I love my Doctors--but we have to accept as reality the notion that we cannot, we cannot expect anything of our healthcare professionals.  We need to learn to not be surprised when these affronts happen to faithful patients!  We need to accept the ugly truth, that in our society, law abiding pain patients are tampered with and persecuted, while the Rush Limbaugh junkies go merryly off to pampered drug rehab spas and listen to staff saying: "good for you!"  give yourself a pat on the back" and otherwise get away with THEIR ILLEGAL drug use!  We have a broken society.  We have to accept that--but remember that life is good--and we are stronger than our pain.

They test before you are prescribed any pain meds where I am at.  It's clearly stated in the info I was given before my apt.

I know this is an old post, but I'm in pain management and I get U/A's done every year without notice.  They are expensive tests too.  I have to pay out of pocket for them(deductible).

I've never had an issue with false readings.  They do the full works plus they do blood testing on top of it all.  I'm pretty happy they have such an extensive test.  I follow the doctors orders exactly as prescribed.

When is the first time they drug test you? Is it at your appointment BEFORE you sign your contract? Or at your first visit AFTER you sign a contract?

She ask me if I thought my dr was giving me a better quality of life? I responded yes and I quote "no he was trying to kill me"this pissed me off to no end bc my dr was my friend as well as my dr!!!! When I ask the pa a question she would only give me her credentials and told me she had other patients and talked out, just like that, well I got ahold a political figure that informed me that it was all lies, plus she told me to go home and do homework on my meds, well I did and ppl said that they taken 20 plus soma where I only took 4 aday and was fine with that. Any advice????? P.S. I also have to pee pee everyone I walk through the door, and made a formal complaint and that at my next appt that the dr that owns the clinic and the clinical overseer ,and the new law on pee test is 4 a yr if ur at high risk of not taking ur meds not illicit drugs(FYI)

If you sign up w/ a Pain Clinic and jump through all of their hoops, they will eventually help you and give you pain meds that you need.
Try to find a clinic who are "Board Certified in Pain Mangement" and they will hopefully treat you w/ the respect you deserve.

Write me back if you need any more advice or info. I amy be able to help, as I have been going thru the same BS for years....

Find a Good Doctor as Quick as you can! Its only going to get worse.

I went to a pain clinic only to be treated as if I were a criminal on probation.
There are good primary care doctors out there if you do your research.

If your Husband has an ongoing condtion which requires him to be on long term pain meds, do your best to find a good Doctor (Primary Care Doc)
who is willing to prescribe the meds he needs.
I have been going through this for years and have seen it all...

I have been stereo typed by CVS. I had asked a simple question about the make-up of a pain mediciation due to me having a reaction to it.
When I asked the legit question, the pharmacy tech said, "I don't want to tell you what I think" Like I was doing somehing wrong or agianst the law.

I reported the woman to CVS and she no longer works there.
Don't let anyone treat you in an unfair way, especially if you ARE doing everything by the books and not mis-using your medications.

People are being placed into a General Category of a person who abuses pain medication Every Day in this Country, even when you have a legit reason for being on these type of mediciations.

If It happens To You REPORT THEM!! If you let it go it is only going to keep happening....

My pain mgt clinic in VA suddenly after a year of treatment told me that they "weren't prescribing pills anymore." They switched me to the patch at less than half the dosage, telling me it was the "right amount." I didn't find out until I checked the FDA website for titration and found they'd cut my dosage in half, lied about it and left me to deal with the symptoms alone and unaware.  This week, a full month later, they finally wrote an increase.  I've been in pain for a month thanks to their disingenuous tactics.  They are scared and their new standard is not to treat the pain patient, but to keep themselves out of hot water.  If they don't want to prescribe pain meds, then why be in the pain business?  The drugstores watch the clinics and the patient's are watched by both of them.  This is all to avoid getting in trouble with the DEA.  It is very discouraging when injured people have no recourse and are "suspect" for reporting their symptoms and asking for what works.  My pharmacy just had to call their office to report that my new 'script wasn't written to match the packaging of the medicine.  That didn't help my confidence level at all!  Good luck to your husband. I hope it gets better out there.

Just wanted to come back, I know this is an old post but it is a good thread so hope it is ok to add
My husband goes to a Pain Management Office and he has no problem with them.  His problem was with the pharmacy (CVS)
The new pharmacist decided that my husband's prescription was too high so he called the doctor to "verify" that this was a real prescription.
Then proceeded to lecture the doctor that "he" felt the level was too high.
The doctor asked if there were record of this dose, yes 5 years worth, the doctor told the pharmacist to fill it.  So it was filled, I am concerned about the future.
We have been told that there are new laws in place, trying to find them now.  The doctor said my husband was lucky CVS filled it and we may want to find a new pharmacy as CVS is having problems.
Anyone else having problems?
Thank you

We the People who suffer from chronic pain are treated like criminals. I have had surgery, epidurals, physical therapy, etc. I was treated at the same Spine & Pain Clinic that had done my surgery for 2 years following, I had inferior care by rude "care providers", gave monthly urine samples, and dropped from care for making a complaint against a nurse who treated me with contempt over and over again. I live in Georgia, but chronic pain sufferers are treated terribly no matter the state. We need a voice to put a stop to the way we are treated! None of us asked to be in this condition, we have no recourse. We have to tolerate being criminalized, and abused for seeking help. I am currently going through withdrawals, as attempts to find another provider is limited, and they all seem to be burdened by having to provide care for you.  What can we do? Do we not have rights? We Need A Say in How We are TREATED, and what we have to TOLERATE!

Hello, I am on 5/325 mg Percocet that has been prescribed to me from my PCP since 2011. 3 months ago, I went to Pain Management doctor and he stuck me on 10/325 mg Percocets. I thought I was suppose to take the 5/325's with the 10/325's and my pharmacy never questioned the scripts because I filled them all at the same place and presumed I was not doing anything wrong. And I never signed a contract at the Pain Management office until 2 weeks ago when I found out that only they can prescribe me my narcotic pain medicine. Does this automatically mean that the Pain Management doctors will black flag me and call my PCP?
