I agree with all the advice offered above...I would however, go on to mention that when I took propranolol while pregnant it dropped my blood pressure dangerously low (it can do the same to pulse rate)....so for someone with a low pulse it should only be used if deemed to be the best possible option for the patient. I had to be hospitalized and my blood pressure brought up and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, so I would speak to my doctor about your concerns regarding using a beta blocker with low pulse rate.

Hello Rimm,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum.

I agree that you provide little information although your question is pretty straight forward.
Propranolol uses include: controlling high blood pressure, relieving angina symptoms, and treating atrial fibrillation. Propranolol may also be used off-label to relieve alcohol withdrawal symptoms, treat hyperthyroidism, and slow down the progression of aortic dilation in children with Marfan syndrome.

IF this medication is right for the person you are inquiring about cannot be answered here. This is a question that can only be answered correctly by the patient's physician. If you are concerned I suggest you, or actually the person you are inquiring for, obtain a second medical opinion.  A knowledgeable pharmacist that is familiar with the patients history and medications can also be helpful.

My best to you.

Peace,
~Tuck

Hi
I worked in the medical field for 15 years. I worked as a medical assitant, technician, Angiographer, and Surgical technician. So I tend to think of gathering info before, I blurt out an answer.
I have suffered with migraines since I was a child, with it getting to the point I had a migraine 70% of the time.
I have had more Migraines than GOD.
I have seen more Neurologists than GOD... Including a Migraine Guru at Yale Medical center, where I worked.
I am happy to help anybody with info and experience on Migraine.
I currently take absolutely NO MEDS FOR ANYTHING. Including the Migraines which tortured me for DECADES.

Hi rimm,

I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are VERY glad that you found this forum!! I need to let you know that there are NO Doctros on this Forum ONLY CP - Chronic Pain - Patients that help each other with our own experiences and expertise that we have gained through our own CP Issues.

I'm very sorry that someone you know is having all of these problems. The main thing that you MUST understand is stated above that NONE of us are Doctors on here. This is a question that MUST be answered by a Doctor as this person's heart rate is so low!! Can you tell us why you are aasking this question? Are you wanting to give this to the person OR is the Doctor suggesting this for the patient? If it's the Doctor then chances are that he/she feels that the patint will benefit from this medication.

As MZ said above there are just too many things left out above.  However, I've ALWAYS found that when my parents were ill - the Doctor knew what was going to benefit them and give them the best quality of life.

I hope that you will give us some more details. :)

I look forward to your update.......Sherry

Hello
This question is hard to answer, because you have given no real info about the person with the migraines.
The persons age, a description of the migraine type, gender, medications currently taken, frequency of migraines, what has been done for the migraines, what works, what doesn't... What brings them on????
I guess I am saying, you are asking what seems like a simple question, about a VERY complicated subject.
Beta blockers, generally lower your blood pressure, and slow your heart rate.
Is the heart rate of 60, at rest? after excersize? sitting? standing?... A child with that heart rate? Adult? elderly?
Beta blockers could potentially present a risk to life, if taken under the wrong circumstances.
Are you questioning a RX for propanolol?
