pain

I went to a pain management center on my own last year for my back pain. I failed a drug test for smoking a joint. I stopped going 3 weeks later. My pain has just got worse, so I went to chiropractor, and my neck is messed up and so is my spine, I asked him to refer me to pain managemet because I have been to him 5 times and I am still in severe pain. I go to this same pain center nxt month. If I pass this drug test will they give me pain meds and not treat me like crap? I haven't smoked pot in over 9 months, it was a once n a blue moon thing.

After them seeing everything that is wrong with you, simply ask them what kind of "plan" will they have for you. The no curve in the neck is called lordosis, or something like that, its usually caused by muscle spasms, so they might prescribe that for you as well. If your not comfortable with their plan, then its OK to "interview" other doctors as long as you don't accept any scripts from more than one. But again, after seeing you and your images, they might offer you pain meds. It might take a little time, they sometimes do that just to weed out the drug seekers, so if your willing to try everything they recommend, eventually if they feel pain meds are right for you, they may very well give you something. Unfortunately it can be a long process and you really do have to be patient, but in the long run, they'll see that you really DO need help and will help you. Good luck and let me know how your appointment goes!

I stopped going on my own, because I felt just because I failed a drug test they didn't care. I had a MRI and it said I have arthritis and some deneration. I went to my chiropractor and had exrays, I have no curve in my neck, when I bend down,it is wearing my bone done, theres a chunk out of it. I have a bone spure in my neck, arthrthis, moderate degenerative bone diease, my left side of me body is higher than my right. I didn't get kicked out at all. Its my first time ever going to one. I just hope my dr told them what all was wrong. I am going to get my exrays to take to them, just to prove it if they say nothings wrong.I know they want give me meds right off, but I went 3 times and they gave me nothing.

How did it end last year? Did you just stop going or were you formally dismissed from his practice. What did the doctor say when you failed your drug test? We need more information to be able to give you better advice. Did you have MRI's and X-rays? Can you prove that you have a legitimate issue with your neck? One thing though, even if it was with a different doctor altogether, most pain doctors won't give out prescriptions on the very first visit, so I wouldn't expect that even if he does agree to take you back as a patient. You may also have to start off with other medications other than narcotics, and pretty much try everything they want you to to prove that you just need relief and not just looking for drugs. I'm not saying you are just looking for drugs, just giving you an idea of their way of thinking, that's all, because I can almost guarantee you they have heard of every excuse known to man. So above all else, be completely honest with them. If they take you back as a patient, that's a good sign, but the trust won't be automatic, it will have to be earned.
