Tail-bone pain

4 days ago while ice skating , I fell straight on my bum ; or shall I say , my tailbone. It was just a dull pain for the first 2 days but afterward I feel a deep , "cloudly" pain when I sit on a certain position . Is that normal , will that injury affect the rest of my life and about when will it heal / stop hurting me?

Hi!
Tailbone pain or coccydynia or coccygodynia is caused by the coccyx (the last vertebra) dislocating when you sit. It is often caused by falling backwards or high pressure jerks as in your case. Use a well-padded seat or air tubes when sitting. Avoid long periods of sitting in one posture. Anti inflammatory drugs, pain killers, local analgesic creams all help to some extent. Some benefit by local steroid injection at the site of the pain. Usually this pain resurfaces from time to time. The above mentioned treatment however brings relief in most cases. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.

Hello there! Sorry to hear that you are in pain. I can relate to enduring the discomfort of a dislocated tailbone. I am 51 years old now and am often reminded of the fall I took landing me on my rear over 10 years ago. The pain was unbearable at first, but after time, it gradually subsided. But even to this day, I get a sharp pain in the rear! Hang in there! Take care when ice skating! Trixie
