If your pain is muscle or nerve an EEG (nerve study) may be beneficial. I think they can do a nerve study in that area.

It just makes sense to me that if the injection was beneficial your physician is on the right course. In my opinion you should return to him/her and continue with treatment.

Good Luck to you.

Hello, sorry you are having to go through all of this!  I'm still not quite clear where exactly your pain is located???  Is it your sternum?  The whole chest area?  Does it hurt when you breathe, move exercise...anything?  I'm wondering why you would have to have some of the tests you have had done (like a colonoscopy) if the pain is in your chest/sternum area.  The sternum is surrounded by cartilage and ligaments and tendons...none of those show up very well on any kind of test.  I would think you need to see a muscle doctor, a physical therapist or chiropractor, massage therapist...some one who deals with the muscles and bones of your body.  Also, sacro-cranial massage can be helpful...and yes, where exactly did they give you an injection?  What was the injection and can they do it again?
I had a very similar problem with my back, I had nerve tests and MRI's and CT scans and everything came back "normal" but I was in severe pain.  I did massage, physical therapy and joint injections and that's what really helped pull me out of the pain cycle.
I hope this helps.  Good luck to you, don't give up hope.  There is a doctor out there who will be able to help you.

Mellowscout...have a good day.

Hello Amarrwf,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am so sorry to hear about your pain and inability to find a diagnosis. You do not explain where your pain is located nor the type of pain it is, burning, aching stabbing. So it is not possible to make a supposition.

I assume a local infiltrate may have been a steroid injection. If this is so can it be repeated? This should have provided your physician with some clues to the source of your pain.

Have you seen more than one physician? If not you should have a second or third opinion. A chronic pain can be an elusive diagnosis. But again the fact that the injection took the pain away should be a huge clue.

There are also conditions such as Fibromyalgia which is a generalized chronic pain condition. However you do not fit that profile as long as the injection took your pain away for 3 days. Can you tell us what area of your body they injected.

I'll look forward to your updates.

Take Care,
Tuck
