vulva pain

After suffering from nerve pain for months , last week after showing the consultant what I had she then prescribed Gabapentin for me 100 mg three times a day.
However reading about this drug I am a little concerned .
So many side effects ,, what is going on .
I have taken now 6 tablets and they say early days for it to go.
I have had burning , stabbing , twisting , throbbing feelings in my vulva area , now it seems a little better , more like a heavy feeling and buzzing , a little like cramp feeling .
What causes this , I do wonder is it when you nerves are upset?
For months I have sat talking to my friends with this going on daily , I manage to sleep but its not at all good, and you get upset when doctor after doctor can not find anythng,
Well no wonder they cant you can t see a thing ,
All urine test came back normal, swab test normal.
How long can i be expected to remain on this drug , and how long will it take .
I have not got any of these many side effect yet.
Is this drug safe, and do you put weight on while using this drug?
barbara.

Hi Doctor K Mathur,
I have not been on this site for a long time , so I never did see your reply since I was last on this site I have seen a consultant and diagnosed with Pudendal Nerve Entrapment , and treatment was Nerve Block Injections , and my medication was pain killers and ampertyperine, 25 mg at night time to help the nerve pain,
The injections did not work , and now my Consultant seems to away long term from the hospital and now I have to wait to see another Consultant at The Walton Centre in Liverpool ,, and at least a ten weeks waiting list, so that has been upsetting,,,
I have never had pain for so long like this , and I live in hope that the next Consultant will help me , this week I have had a bad urine infection and this made the Nerve Ending Pain much worse, I have suffered,

Hi!
Vaginal or vulval pain can be due to UTIs, vulvovaginitis, labial adhesions and foreign body in vagina like a toilet paper etc, STD, PID or pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine or extra uterine endometriosis, kidney stones and vaginal prolapse. If you have a previous history of abdominal surgery, then this can be due to adhesions which can be diagnosed by laproscopy only. It can also be due to nerve impingement either pudendal nerve or spinal nerve.
Your problem looks more like saddle neuralgia or Pudendal nerve entrapment (PNE) in which the pudendal nerve (located in the pelvis) is entrapped or compressed. Pain is worsened by sitting, and there is a sense of a foreign object (constant urge to urinate) in the urethra. Diagnosis is by diagnostic block, MRI, CT scan, and Pudendal Nerve Motor Latency Test (PNMLT). Maybe you can discuss this with your urologist or even a neurologist can help you out with this. Treatment is usually by doing a nerve block.
At your age, this pain can also be due to hormonal imbalance. So, please consult your gynecologist and get complete hormone panel done. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
