why is it so hard to find a good dr!!!!!

Why does my dr. treat me like I am a bad person because I take pain medication?? He makes me feel like a drug addict and I have to do a urine test everytime..........I don't know why cuz he doesn't give me that much meds and I am still in pain A LOT. I leave there feeling like I did something wrong when all I wanted was help, it's not my fault i got injured and have a pinched nerve. WTH he must be emotionally challenged and he never makes eye contact.

I've recently fired my old pain doctor and was in search of a new one.  With the help of others, I may have found the right pain clinic for me.  I had my first appointment and they did an injection right away.  I see them on Monday for a follow up appointment.  They are very strict with the pain contract.  I took a urine test my first visit and I have to be prepared to take one each visit I'm there.  I also have to bring in my medications for a pill count or if they discontinue the medications, they will be destroyed there.  If my pain is not being treated well, I must call them and let them know inbetween appointments.  Good luck and I hope you find the right doctor for you.

Thank you so much for your comments and input!! I'm not the the only one!!! YES I am searching for a new Dr. because the current one has lowered my meds for no reason and I have all this pain that I try to ignore but it wont go away and it drives me insane!!! That is right he does work for me and I will def give him a piece of my mind once I get a new Dr. so maybe he will think twice about how he treats his patients.

I have been made to feel this way as well.  My PA has all kinds of negative comments about my medications.  For some reason they don't distinguish one person for another, they just lump us in with all the people out there that ARE faking or abusing medications.  I too was surprise drug tested and was very offended.  But I came to this forum and found that it is not at all uncommon to be drug tested when taking narcotic medications.  So that is something that I can accept.  However, we do deserve to be treated with respect.  That is why I am switching to another doctor and I would advise you the same.  Several doctors I saw before I stuck with this one felt the same way.  I was in constant pain and my last doctor thought on Vicodin every 12 hours as needed was sufficient. BUT Prescription drug abuse is on the rise and in the news recently, causing more suspicion of patients I guess.  It's something we will have to deal with too.  I am trying to build a trusting relationship with my doctors and hopefully I can stick with this new one for a long time.

Yes PMP must work within the system but they also can do so with empathy and kindness. Your physician's actions should not make you feel like a bad person nor guilt ridden. Scaredmom has echoed my belief and what I am forever telling ppl on this forum.  Some physicians can forget we are human and we happen to pay their salary. Yes the actually pay check comes from the clinic but it's the patients that pay the clinics.

Don't settle for less. If their wasn't such a physician shortage patients would have a better voice.  Find a new physician, not matter how difficult that may be. There are kind and caring ones out there.

It sounds like it is time to find a new doctor. Remember you hired him, he works for you not the other way around.

In this case it's highly likely. Yes I understand that but it's not the system that makes him have a negative approach to treating his patients instead of giving them hope and helping them with their pain...he's a douche bag.

It's highly unlikely that it is your doctors decision at all to give you a urine test at every appointment. Very few doctors are free agents. They work within systems. And every system has standards to be able to defend and justify every single narcotic prescription written  when called upon to do so. These standards very often include  UA's and narcotic contracts for every pain patient. The doctors have to follow these rules to the letter to be able to continue writing prescriptions for you.
