Advice on 6 year old son needed

Hi,

My son is 6 and i feel that he is terribly silly at times. He copies stuff from tv (like the players in a cricket/baseball game) and tumbles around while playing with his friends. Also he seems to like playing with 8-9 year olds than kids his age. As a result he gets rejected by the older kids when they don't want him around. Its sad to see him not playing with kids he likes. He doesn't seem to mind and is happy to ride his bike and interact with other kids..though he says they are not his "friends". Am i just being a over protective mother?! Is it normal for kids his age to say and do silly things? Will the older kids rejecting him affect his self esteem. Please let me know your thoughts. I am worried and confused.

Thanks Ray. I have three kids and he is the middle one. His older brother is 13. The idea of handing out the party invitation cards is a good one. Hopefully he will find his balance soon. Thanks again...June

There appears to be some interesting signs/clues in your description of your 6yr young son...Tell me if my assumptions are correct.
Is he your only child ?... If so its probaly the reason why he prefers what he thinks are grown ups like you.....Also similarly the players of grown up teams he also imagines as his friends, (none of which reject him)....Not forgetting that his silly stuff like tumbling around, maybe just be a cry for their attention/recognition in his lonely world.

A good idea could be that when he approaches his 7th Birthday, you have some party invitation cards that he writes, also he hands out for say his 8 or so similar age associates.
He maybe shy, reserved, and a bit insecure....Good luck...UK Ray.
