New to Daycare and change in napping routine

My son just began daycare yesterday and the care provider allowed him to cry himself to sleep for his nap (around 10 minutes she said). He is almost 15 months old. At home we let him drink a bottle, then we soothe him to sleep when he starts crying, usually just by standing next to his crib for a couple of minutes. Now that he is with other children, should we also let him cry himself to sleep at home to learn that he needs to fall asleep on his own? I can't imagine being able to let him cry for 10 minutes without comforting him. I am worrried if we don't, however, it will be difficult for the daycare provider to get him to nap every day.
