Well, if he has the side effect of being bored by video games . . . that is a plus.
Video games are not great for a kid is all I am saying. I've got an 8 year old and they are certainly part of our culture but one must limit them.
I find that interacting with my kids is the best way to keep them excited and motivated. Offer to go for a family walk or bike ride. Get dad to go shoot some basketball with him. Play a game together as a family.
My own son has sensory integration disorder. He doesn't take any meds and we've had times of lack of focus for sure. Muscle work is really awesome for calming a child's nervous system. So, get your boy doing some activities. What could he possibly try? Swimming (my boy is loving his swim team), karate, soccer??? There are team sports but if that is not his thing, there are plenty of positive individual activities that he may like.
With homework, it is best to do something physical before hand to settle the nervous system. also things like fidgets work very well for helping a child stay focused. Do you use anything like that? Things like a piece of gum when going for walk really help.
My boys like to go for a hike or nature walk. It's great time together and good for us all. Scooters are another all purpose activity.
I also have a theory about that age kid. You don't always say "do you want to go for a walk?". Instead you say "hey, we are going on a family walk. Get your shoes on." Works for me . . . good luck!
Some meds can have side effects ..is he diagnosed with a 'disorder'
He usually likes video games but all of sudden they bore him with in twenty mins. I'm think maybe it's because of his new meds. He just can't stay focused on anything for more then twenty mins
How does he spend a typical day, if he doesn't go outside, play with toys, or like video games?
