sorry to hear bout your little boy, but i would not let this lie and would ask for a secons opinion from another hospital, the reason i say this is because my liitle boy at 6 weeks old wasnt right i took him to the doctors sometimes twice a week , cold sweaty, clammy etc they said he was ok and i was paranoid ( i am a nursery nurse and mother of 2 others... so i disagreed) by the time he was 6 months he was quite chubby and turning orange!! they said he was to old for jaundice.. still no tests, then at 7 months he was cold unresponsive, sweaty, clammy... took him to different hospital, he has pneumonia had x- ray said something strange on heart, rushed to heart hospital found out his heart was enlarged said cardiomyopothy, cut long story short, put on lots of meds on transplant list then by some miracle found out all the probs were a narrowing in his aorta but quite a way down his side, 2 ops later and 1 year later he is fit and healthy, so please take this further and ask for scans hope this helps tc x
Dear mnerton: it sounds like you have had a very difficult year with your son. unfortunately you are not supplying any information regarding specific testing for your child, therefore one cannot make any specific comments. The list on the differential diagnosis of loss of consciousness in a 2 year old is long. certainly it would include an intensive cardiac evaluation, including electrocardiogram (EKG) to evaluate any electrical conduction problems, an echocardiogram to rule out structural heart disease, and holter monitoring to rule out any arrhythmias. The family history is also very important and you do not provide any information in that regard. But there are neurologic, endocrine and gastrointestinal things that might also be an issue. If you have had a thorough discussion with your primary doctor about the testing that has already been done for your son, and if your child has seen a specialist(s), and you still have unanswered questions, then gathering the data and getting a second opinion is another option.
