I went through the same thing with my 2 year old at the time. To make a VERY long story short, he would wake up in the middle of the night screaming in pain, he started to cry in the middle of something, then it would go away like nothing happened. It was either head hurting, knees or feet. It was hard to get a specific with a 2 year old. I kept bringing him to the dr's. I was told growing pains, too. I brought him to the ER at one point and he had a spinal tap and was admitted. But they couldn't find what was wrong. Then he had gotten speckles on his butt and bruise like marks that wouldn't go away. From that his Dr. diagnosed him with HSP (his immune system was attacking his intestins and kidneys, and triggers artheritis and headaches)  which he did have. Confirmed with blood work. It was supposed to go away on its own within like 8 weeks, and at the time it was 4 months. He had his urine tested. His back hurt in his car seat. But to make the story shorter, I figured out he was allergic to MILK of all things. And he would have a reaction 4 hours later. I had bought new carseats out of despiration. I wouldn't have ever thought in a million years milk would give a reaction like this. Since then I read all labels and he has been a new child. He no longer screams in pain, unless there is some sort of cross contamination, from a friends house, or something. But I wished someone would have told me this to save the heartache and sleepless nights and so much worry. I do hope things have gotten better for you. I just had to share from one mom to another. There was so much more in detail with head pain, behind the knee pain. sweating, temprature droping (i thought my thermometer was broken) so much more that I could get into detail. ALL OF THAT GONE GOING DAIRY FREE! I could not believe it! I have three kids. It's been almost a year. and I've also noticed no more ear infections, sinus infections. And when they do get sick, its unbelievibly just runny noses for a couple of days and that's it. And my husband used to take omeprazol (?) 2x a day for acid indigestion, and he no longer gets it. My oldest used to get migrains and no longer has them either. Not in a million years would I have guessed things would have changed for the better with no milk. I hope this helps somebody. (I'm finding it easier to copy and paste this, so sorry if you read this in more than one discusion. I'm motivated to help at least one child that's going through what we went through)

If your child is cyanotic (turning blue around the lips and /or finger tips) and waking up with leg cramps, these are both signs of lack of oxygen. Please ask his doctor to check his heart. I am not trying to scare you. I am diffinitely not a doctor. I'm sure it could be lots of other things, but this is one thing it may be and it's something that should be checked out. I have a five year old with a congenital heart defect and he has the same problems. This is not to say it's the same thing..but please have it checked out.

see, my daughter has frequent uti's also, (her first probably before age 2). They had her tested for kidney reflux, which was negative, so her pediatrician says as long as her "plumbing " is ok  we just chalk it up to unfortunate incidents.  I haven't thought of any connection of her leg pains to it though.  I've just been looking for answers to the leg pain, but I am open to any suggestions or avenues to persue.  Does anyone have any advice for relief for these leg pains in the meantime?  What has anyone else tried, sucessfully or not?

well my daughters not that tall i would probably say average, iam 5ft 7andmy husband is 5ft10 so  neither of us are that tall really.
But she has recently started with frequent urine infections and constipation she has never suffered any of these before, but all the peads do is keep giving her different meds and i am really worried there is a link between it all.
but they dont seem to think like that, she is on 5 lots of meds a day and she is only 2.

my 4 year old daughter has had leg pain since a baby, she just couldn't tell us what was wrong then.  She would cry unconcollably for a couple of hours sometimes and still does, 2-3 times a week, then she may go for weeks without doing so.  No blue lips or other health problems though.  I've mentioned it several times to the pediatrician but he shrugs it off without much explanation.  I question other parents whenever I get a chance and most agree that it is growing pains, but I still worry sometimes She has been over 90% on height consistantly, and I am tall as well. Its hard to watch her hurt so much and not know what to do.  Ibuprofen and tylenol do help when I can get her calmed down enough to take, but it takes 20 minutes at best.  I would worry more about the blue lips, too, although a friends child did the same thing and the doctors said it was probably from getting cold while she slept.  She eventually had her tonsils and adenoids removed because of frequent strep infections.  Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Well my son had an apt with his  pulmonologist today for his frequent pneumonia. He has to get a Cat Scan of his lung Asap because she thinks that he might have a cyst on it causing the frequent pneumonia (he hasn't had a clear chest xray in a year that we know of and she thinks probably since he was born). While there I asked her about the leg cramps and she said that she didnt' think that she would see a reason that it would be related. So I don't know what to do now. The cramps in his legs are the least of my worries for now but I still think they may be linked somehow. My son use to just wake at night screaming before he could tell me what hurt but I'm guessing sometimes it was probably his chest and sometimes his legs, it's so much nicer when they can actually tell you what hurts. Well I hope you get to the bottom of it. I know it's hard having a child in pain and feeling so helpless. Have a Merry Christmas and Take Care

my 2yr old has sufferd with respiratoy problems since being 3wks old, they found she had a left hyper inflated lungs, she also walks on her tiptoes and wakes frequently through the night complaining something hurts but we cannot find out what actually hurts.
We have wondered the same thing could her symptoms be linked.

soznic, I cannot shed light on this but my son has severe leg pains at night and throughout the day he's 4 1/2. We went to the pediatrician and found out that he was flat footed and she referred us to a podiatrist who put him in special inserts; this helped him for about 2 months only for the leg pain to return recently. The pain is right behind his knees. He also has frequent pneumonia and asthma. I'm wondering if these things are related in anyway. Does your son have a history of respiratory problems? I hope you find something out. I found that stretching my sons legs a little before bed sorta helps.
