My grandson has a best friend , who he has had since he was about 2 years old, my grandson is 9 now, his friend is 8 years. I know his mom and one day I saw his penis,(he was about 3 then) when he was being changed. it was almost nonexistent(it seemed to have grown internally and was flush against his stomach, and since my grandson has a rather large penis for his age, his mom, was just sort of embarassed. I asked her if she had taken him to a doctor, and that it wasn't anything to be embrrassed about, but he should see a pediatrician. She didn't have insurance, and am not sure if this played into his never going. He had a problem urinating, and it going all down his leg, but she never checked it out, just saying it just needed to be "clipped"! He was circumcised, and I didn't know what she meant, but she was positive the pediatrician, at his birth, had made a mistake during the circumcision. She never has taken him in to have him checked, and finally I mentioned that it might not be a problem NOW, but when he got older, in high school, he could get some cruel teasing. He is a wonderful, happy little boy, and I would hate to have the problem never addressed, but it is a touchy subject I guess for some mothers. I think it is something no different than any other issues that should be looked at, to either be reassured, or it could be a problem that is easily fixed! I knew another little boy with a simalar problem, who was at my SON'S babysitter, and his problem DID involve hormonal problems. HIS parents, (he was adopted), also took yeas to take him in! The father was ashamed for some reason, and it wasn't until the little boy got to be about 70 pounds, at age 3 or 4, that he was taken to a pediatrician.
I would say that you should ask about the meds, that a lot he is on...we do have a ADHD forum on Med Help also there is an expert/doctor forum you may find helpful ...good Luck
he is currently on vyvanse 30 mg once a day
zoloft 25 mg once a day
intuniv 1 mg once a day
and clonidine, 2 mg at night
He has always had the issues...um, downstairs, and it has been brought up to three diff docs, He was started on the adhd meds when he was five, so I know they are not the culprit, although I am sure they are what is giving him the tics :(
I am just wondering if possibly anyone else has dealth with this, and what should I expect? from the endo? what is best case/worst case scenerio? I know noone has the full answers, but some insight would possibly help the worry lol
Thanks to anyone who reads and answers, or has any ideas!
The best idea is no doubt to see an endocrinologist..I assume if he has severe ADHD he is on meds, may I ask which ones? There are some nasty side effects with the meds doctors prescribe for this disorder and you may want to speak to the prescribing doctor about the dosage ..
