Child not eating

My child is going to be 3 in October and is not currently eating more than a teaspoon of food at each setting.  He plays isn't lethargic and drinks Ovaltine to get nutrients.  When he was a year old he was diagnosed with failure to thrive.  He is now 32 months old and weights 28 lbs and is 39 inches long. A doctor told me to quit giving him anything to drink and he would eat but it hasn't changed his eating habits in any way shape or form.  Please help! Concerned he is never going to eat.

Does he have any other medical problems which may cause it? I would quit the drinking part and get him to eat, he has to at some stage. There are appetite boosters out on the market, have you asked your doctor about them? My daughter was taking one which was an iron supplement too, I took it as a child and it helped us, helped my nephew and hubby's nephew too. Think of that as an option, may do a world of good.

It sounds like you are giving him Ovaltine, though.  Did you try *really* giving him nothing to drink?
