Is it possible to reuse a butterfly needle?

I have been having some anxiety over my last experience with blood draw. My 3 year old had to have a blood test and while I tried to calm her down, I forgot to pay attention to the whole process of opening a fresh needle and all that. So, my question is : is it even physically possible to reuse a butterfly needle. Are there some safety devices preventing that? I only saw the whole thing when it was already filled with blood. There was a terrible case when those butterfly needles were rinsed and reused back in 99. I just need some reassurance that it is not possible to do that even if someone was really negligent.

It is physically possible, but no doctor would EVER do that. It is very unhygienic and would spread blood-transmitted diseases. I can guarantee you that they did not use a needle that had been used before. After every blood draw they put the needle in a sharps container, which is then properly disposed of.
